I work at my local mercedes benz and porsche dealer as a car runner and washer. One of the business men i know there is a pretty cool guy and i always see him abusing the cars on the lot whenever he takes them out haha.
Well after work one day as i was leaving he was taking out one of the newer model mercedes benz s500's. He was goin WOT everytime he found an opening in traffic. I thought he would race me for fun (even though i knew i would lose). So as i was following him he hits a red light right next to a mid 90's 740il :suave .
I didnt think anything of it at first but as the light turns green the 740il jumped off the line and then slowed up and waited for the s500. At this point i was going nuts because i knew the salesman wasnt one to be pushed around by anyone and they paced each other at about 20 mph. The s500 gunned it as soon as they were even and the 740il followed him almost instantly goin WOT. Now you have to understand this road. Its 3 lanes, one goes to the highway, and the other 2 go for a little more than an 8th of a mile until they join into a single lane. Back to the race, the s500 got the jump but the bimmer started screaming protest to this flagship mercedes sedan trying to take away its pride. From my eyes i saw the Bimmer trying to gain ground on the mercedes but he just held steady at the back door of the benz. The road was about to end and im not sure at what speed this was but the bimmer backed off and went behind the benz at the last second.
I was laughing the whole way home after seeing this race. One because the salesman in the benz was racing a car he doesnt even own, and two because i was happy to see an out muscled bimmer hold its ground to a benz. The bimmer has 282 horsepower and if im not mistaken the benz is pushing like 310 horsepower and 350 torque. Ive driven the s500 before but just to get gas and such, never went WOT in it. I was wondering how the later 90's 7's ran. I assume the 7 was stock except for the nice wheels that were on it. And in case anyone was wondering i tried to talk to the guy about the race when i worked the next day but he just sorta blew me off and said he wasnt sure if he remembered it or not. I got kinda pissed that he wouldnt acknowledge that he raced one of the dealership cars but i was happy to see it. Now if i can just see him race one of the 911 turbos :suave

Just wondering, what do you use to wash the cars there?

You can really fuck up new cars like that before they are broken in. One of my buddys used to work at a bmw dealership and blew an engine doing exactly that. Cool race though!

Half a year ago I went to the local Nissan dealer, they had an '02 Sentra Spev V Type R with 5k miles for $15k. I showed my mom the car later that night, and we just caught the "finance guy" hopping in and using it to get home (which I didn't care about). I did care about the fact that he smoked the tires going out the lot and revving the thing to high hell (on a cold engine) down the highway until we couldn't hear him.

I went to the dealership the next day and talked to the owner, and told him he lost a sale thanks to his employee mistreating the car I wanted (and yes, I was going to buy it).

Employees racing your dealership cars? I definitely won't be stopping by your dealership then. I don't care if it's a good dealership, I don't want a busted ass car that's been hotrodded by a dumbass employee who doesn't give a shit if the car isn't his.

Nice kill. Also a nice loss of a potential customer :)

answer about the washing cars, we have a car wash thats basically like any other one that you just drive in and let it do its work. Then when they come back out we do the wheels and tires with some tire shine and wheel cleaner and shammy them off dry. I definitely think the washer is pretty bad on the paint but i guess you couldnt really have someone washing all of them by hand.
Dwayne i understand your point of view, I was just telling the story because i thought it was a good raced to post up. I dont want to get anyone all fired up about it haha. Anyway i can confess to opening up the new porsche cayenne turbo once just to feel the power of it on the road. What this employee did was of course wrong but i can see how he could get carried away once in awhile. I dont endorse what he did and doing it all the time is a stupid idea. It was a cool race to watch and i wasnt the one putting someone elses property at risk so i wasnt too concerned about it.

A little further north, not much though, in Selinsgrove. I was out in State College for the past 4.5 years at PSU, too.

I can understand the temptation to race cars like that around, especially when you're driving, you bump the gas, and just feel that power come alive. It's hard to resist that. If he's not thrashing the car, it's not a big deal (the guy at the Nissan place was though). We both know that customers just want cars that have been taken care of, that's all. No hard feelings :)

Can't you special order a car ensuring that it'll never have been raped by the evil stealership? ;)

Sure it may take an extra week or two, but if *I* were buying a brand new ~$85,000 car the wait would be worth it..

Why beat the car to begin with? What about used cars?

Even if you're *only* spending 30k and not 85k you deserve a car that hasn't been beaten.

You can't argue against that.

Don't go to Sterling BMW in Newport Beach, CA if you want a car that hasn't been abused. I test drove a new 530i and a X3 yesterday. Before the salesman would let me drive he had to pull out of the dealership onto a side road. All the way to the side road he was taking the cars to redline on a colder than cold engine. He told me he just ordered an 04 M3 Cab. I hope he treats his M3 a lot better.

ordering cars doesnt necessarily mean they wont be abused. We had an SL 55 AMG delivered last weekend. When it gets here I take all the tape off of it, wash it up and clean it out, and then take it out for gas and all that other stuff to get it ready for "Delivery". I didnt abuse that car though i was afraid to take it above 3k rpms. The urge was pretty damn tempting but i just chilled while i was driving it. Plus the place we get gas at is 3 lots away from the dealership so if i would have went WOT anyone on the lot would have heard it and you can figure out the end to that story would have been.
