Seriously,
I went to the dealer to get my oil change, car has been sitting in the garage over the winter with weekly startups for the engine. I go to the dealership at 10,500 miles and they do my oil change (indicator light on my M said it still had 2000 miles to go). After I finish signing the paperwork the guy told me once my indicatior light (ie oil change light) goes on I should come back for inspection I.
I did not quite understand this. Is it because my car is a little over 2 years old? Is Inspection I based on time of the engine not miles? Just wondering here...

Background info

Build Date 12/01/01 (My B-DAY  )
Delivery Date 02/11/02
1200 mile service 03/22/02
Recall on Oil Pump 04/17/03 (oil Changed too)
First Schedule Oil Change 03/22/04

Hmm... ?

The service inspection lights are controlled by the amount of fuel thats circulated through your car.

You must drive the car really hard (WOT a lot) to be burning up that much fuel that quickly, my first inspection didn't happen until 16K or so.

I don't drive my M3 all that hard, but I have about 2,600 miles and the indicator says I have about 11,900 miles before the first oil change. If I keep on driving like this, I am supposed to have my first oil change around 14,500 miles, which is about right.
