Good thing I speak German, they gave a lot of info about it. The only thing that's not done is the replacement of the speedometer. The narrator said that the stock one ends too early at 160mph. The vehicle registration lists a top speed of 300km/h ~ 188mph. The engine and transmission are out of the M5, and the rear axles out of the M3. In the first three gears with the DSC turned off caution is a must, a tip of the gas pedal will point the tail in any direction you want.

TeamZ4 said that the steroid pumped Z4 referenced above went for about $120,000 (roughly the price of a Z8). Probably 20 years ago now (crap I'm an old fart) the vegetable drink "V8" used to advertise by having someone drink some "lesser" drink and then slap their forehead and say "I coulda had a V8" so you see, it was really quite the clever play on words :rolleyes:

If I had a choice between the two - and let me make it clear to any rich, eccentric women (or acceptably effeminate men) who might be reading this that I would be willing to perform any number of unmentionable, depraved acts for either of those two cars - I'd have to be brutally honest with myself and admit, that since the performance of each must be relatively comparable I'd rather have the $120,000 that looks like a $120,000 car than the $120,000 car that looks like a $35,000 car unless you are educated and look closely.

I'm not proud (hell after what I just did for Mrs. Howell, how much pride can I have left?), that's just the way it is.

The paint job is, quite possibly, the ugliest I've ever seen, but I'd like to see them do something like this with the front fender of the M version (if they ever make it) to set it off from the base (minus the pseudo Corvette two-tone):

but I have to concede that the Z8 resale would definitely trump the modded car unless you just got lucky

I'm sure you're right, but I find it hard to believe that the 5.0 would be dramatically different than the Z8. It seems they would have very similar dimensions, very similar engines, very similar tires. The biggest difference I can imagine would be that the suspension of the Z8 is likely a bit softer. Still, the Z8 is designed to have a V8 while it has been crammed into the Z4 (though it almost seems as if they may have designed it to eventually have a V8 ;) ). While the Z4 is a great handling car, I'd be afraid it would be less so with that extra weight.

Now if you could use that budget to reduce weight, increase power, shorten gearing and tighten the suspension (and I think you're implying something like this with your $20K estimate) I'd be more intrigued.

Interesting! You're right, I just did a quick search, and it looks like it's a little heavier than the 3.0, but barely, and since (I'm assuming) it has heavier springs, tires etc. that's pretty impressive.

I may have to think more seriously about getting one. :D

well a bolt-on $6k supercharger kit will get a 3.0 to 350hp without any weight penalty ;) and with add'l mods/$$$ I could see getting close to 400hp :evil2
