I was cruising on 85 south when I see a white E36 M3. I pull up next to him and match his speed. He has his window down so he can hear my car and he looks over and gives me a smirk. Hmmm....maybe he wants to play. I downshift and give it some gas to see if he follows.

He doesn't. So whatever...I am cruising down the highway and a few minutes later I see him hauling donkey right behind me. He pulls up maybe 3 car lengths behind me at 70mph.

I hit it. Rowing throw the gears I am hauling. He is still right behind me. He is pulling slowly...prolly made up a car length of distance at this point. He has 2 lanes to the left available to him. I don't understand why he hasn't taken them and passed me already. I look down...140 is on the speedo...OH JEEZ!. I immediately let off the gas. He was too close to hit the brakes. Whats the wacko do? Flies around me at about 145 or so and throws on his flashers.

I'm thinking to myself ...What just happened? :confused:

An E36 M3 auto or manual from a highway roll I always thought would lay a smack down on me. As close as it was I am guessing it was Auto.

I think he must've been toying with you. I've had both cars and there is no way a maxima would ever keep up with an m3 like that. The m3 is so much faster he could pull on you easily in every gear. It would be a difference of at least 7-8 carlengths by 140 if not more.

i thought about that. but throwing on the flashers seems to me like he thought he won or beat me or whatever. so that made me think he was trying. who knows?

my best is 14.5 in the quarter but my car has an ugly powerband and highway runs are not impressive in it usually.

i believe i know who your talking about. there's 2 white maximas in the atlanta area that are very well done up. both turbos. one putting down 390 (5 speed) and the other at 260 (auto)(more hp now since he upgraded his turbo). it's most likely one of them. they're easily in the mid 13 second cars with what they have.

although u and i have an m3 does not mean our cars are the fastest out there...

a friend of mine has a 2002 maxima se 5 spd (~220ish HP). His car is quick, but an absolute dog above 100. My stock e36 m3, even if left in 5th, would easily hang and quickly pass him. He also has a modded 2003 330ci and even his 330 would easily walk the maxima above 100.

i raced my friend who has a 97m3 and his car is very nicely modded and i had him in 3rd gear with my maxima. i didnt leave him in the dust or anything but when were neck and neck until i had to shift at 6200 and he went up to 7???. i thought he would have taken me or somethin but im proud to be able to keep up wit him if its only in 3rd gear.

I can attest that Liquid Venom did hang with me in 3rd gear on my modified m3... but Liquid venom, care to tell the rest of the crowd what happened after third gear :firedevil

i think 01 were actually 227(5th gen body style)

supposedly 02-03 are the fastest from the factory...although 04s are within a .1 sec in the 1/4 from what i know.

also although 00-01 have more hp than 95-99...i think 95-99 are quicker cause of weight.

and the last thing is 95-96 are the fastest out of 95-99 cause they weigh less and are OBDI...for ex. my car weighs in at 2940 I believe with my light wheels, lighter catback , and lighter udp...not huge weight savings but weight saving nonetheless. 95-96 weigh in fully loaded somewhere in the 2700s I believe..thats leather, sunroof, everything....i have cloth.

There is no 4th gen Maxima that weighs near in the 2700's, not even the GXE's are near that weight. In reality the difference in weight of the 95/96 and 97-99 are the bumper reinforcements. There is at most a 30-50lb difference between the two. 4th gens weigh ~3000lb 5th gens 3300lb+ and 6th gens 3500lb. The 02/03's are overrated in horsepower, putting down only ~205fwhp/220fwtq stock. They are still quick however, 1 guy recently pulled a 14.1 bone stock 03 6MT and there's another with intake, removed AC, slightly modded intake manifold, Toyo T1-S, 6MT that's now running ~13.6@106. Light bolt on 5.5gens typically run into the 220fwhp/240fwtq range, so they're quite capable. Typical bolt on 4th gens run 14.7-14.3 and trapping up to 99mph with ~185fwhp/195fwtq. The thing that suffers on the 4th gens is the lack of top end grunt. MEVI equipped cars can gain ~30fwhp at redline and are thus much stronger on highway runs, but sacrifice power down low. Some really good drivers and extensive bolt ons can get 14.3-14.1 which is in the area of a stock E36 M3. There is speculation as to how the auto 04' Maxima is so fast when it is only rated at 265HP and has more weight + big heavy 18" stock wheels on the SE 5sp auto trans. There's people running ~14.4 or under with their stock 5sp autos. Check out this run (stock vs stock) against a 330ci stick.
