View Full Version : Poor Jetta...
AuricanX 03-20-2004, 11:09 AM Ok, so the gf has a brand spankin new M3, why? Cuz I talked her into it. At any rate, it's only got 800 miles on it after 6 weeks of use (don't ask she works out of a home office). So we decide to take her car, and get some hot white chocolate right by the sea shore....how romantic. It would've been a nice and easy drive, I was finally getting used to the SMG system when this red jetta pops up next to me and revs his engine on La Jolla Village Drive (nice straight three lane road). What is he thinking? It's one of those more square older jetta's. My gf looks at me, and I thought she was going to say, "No way." But instead the words out of her mouth were, "You better smoke that little wannabe." :evil2 Ouch, big words....So, long story short, the light turned green, I hit the gas and shifted at 4,900, I didn't drop the clutch, and I wanted to make sure I had plenty of room (break in says no more then 5.5k if you wanna make your engine last). We pull one and half car lengths ahead.....with second gear it's 3 car lengths...3rd...argh red light ok.:redspot He was obviously beaten.....he revs his engine again...Ok, so instead of telling you what happened then, go about three lines up, and just re-read it, you'll get the picture. this time I cut in front of him (cuz I had to turn right).
All this would've been fine and well, who would've expected a stock looking jetta to beat the e46 M3. Low and behold, I drive the VERY NEXT DAY with the 328i, and look who it is....same freakin' jetta! What is he stalking me!? I'll give you three guesses what he did....and I'll give you only one guess at what the outcome was. This jetta just can't get a break. I have to say he was persistent, but it just seemed that bmw took on a borg perspective for him, "Resistance is futile":devillook
slocar 03-20-2004, 11:58 AM make sure you race him in reverse next time :)
sorry just realized you would still beat him by like 4 car lengths
fortysix 03-20-2004, 12:12 PM
I would say nice kill, but this is more like nice series of 3 kills.
M Roady 03-20-2004, 12:22 PM :spank:
E24_635csi 03-20-2004, 03:27 PM nice kills! there are alot of guys now who drive jettas who think they are the guys who drive the mustangs... who usually get beat all the same way.
fortysix 03-20-2004, 04:37 PM you think the jetta was modded at all?
And you say that you were using SMG but you also talk about not dropping the clutch, which infers that there is a clutch to drop. :dunno
BabyM 03-20-2004, 05:21 PM Nice!
I myself couldn't get anyone to play with me in two hours of driving this morning!
AuricanX 03-21-2004, 11:42 AM yeah, sorry to confuse you. I meant it was a soft launch, I didn't break start, and you can still drop the clutch in an SMG (I did it on accident once...not gonna try again until that mile marker hits 1200 =P). Now that I think about it, the sport button wasn't even on or anything. And no, the jetta wasn't the least bit modded. At least what I saw....maybe it was an uber sleeper...and maybe he just slept right through the race..... :)
slocar 03-21-2004, 04:42 PM BabyM,
they know that they will get killed...so why even bother LOL :)
BabyM 03-21-2004, 05:54 PM they know that they will get killed...so why even bother LOL :)
Yeah, I'll keep telling myself that until someone wants to run with me :stickoutt
Silent Bob 03-22-2004, 12:39 AM was this even a VR6? Why on earth he would rev at an E46 M is beyond me unless he was just messin around....but I have run pretty even with E36 328's...so either he can't drive or you just drive better
Carzzi 03-22-2004, 06:35 PM It's possible the guy just wanted to hear that evil, raspy E46 M3 exhaust note!
surfacewound 03-22-2004, 08:42 PM Every time a slow(er) car does that to me, I initially get a little nervous because I assume he's got some crazy mods done and can rape me... I mean, why the hell else would he be challenging me? Initially I'm often even more wary of one of those than I am of a car that's (in stock form) closer to my car's performance level.
gteeiguy 04-05-2004, 08:24 PM Yeah, I'll keep telling myself that until someone wants to run with me :stickoutt
i'll run ya in my VR...hehehehe
But there is no clutch on an SMG car. Only 2 pedals.
