View Full Version : Thinking about selling my 2000 540i 6spd
dagoo98 03-16-2004, 02:28 PM I was thinking about upgrading to the new E60 545i so I might be selling my 2000 540i 6spd with 80,000 miles if I get a good offer. The car has a new clutch, just replaced the PCV valve which was giving me a vibration, new front and rear brakes and rotors, recent tune-up. The car is Cosmos black with gray leather interior, heated seats, rear sunshades, DSP, sports package. The book value of the car is about $31,000. I'm looking to get about $29,000. If I get a good offer I'll sell it, if not I will just keep it.
dagoo98 03-16-2004, 02:29 PM I also did the angel eye conversion so the car has OEM xenon angel eyes.
MGregski 03-16-2004, 04:41 PM I'll give you $20K:D
sl0moti0n 03-16-2004, 04:54 PM hey, where is the PCV valve and how much is it? I think I need to change mine.
dagoo98 03-16-2004, 05:21 PM Ok let me revise this post a little, if your aren't going to offer more than $25,000 don't even waste you time or mine. WannaM maybe you should just stick to your 95 M3 and call it a day. the dealer told me that he would give me $23,000. Therefore, it must be more than this unless I might as well just trade it in. Now with that said, I'm still accepting offers.
dagoo98 03-16-2004, 05:22 PM the PCV valve is in the intake, you must remove the intake manifold gasket and inside there is a transfer tube and the PCV valve. two jobs in one because you must replace the intake manifold gasket.
dagoo98 03-16-2004, 05:24 PM The PCV valve and the intake manifold gasket on my 540 cost me about $150 in parts
dagoo98 03-16-2004, 05:27 PM Just in case their is any confusion, the car is a 2000 540i 6spd.
MGregski 03-16-2004, 05:32 PM It was a joke, relax.
dagoo98 03-16-2004, 05:46 PM I'm sorry, rough day at work.
MGregski 03-16-2004, 06:05 PM :drink1: No problem.
JasonL 03-16-2004, 07:09 PM Damn, cars must just be a lot cheaper everywhere else, here in Wa, that exact car would go for like 32-35k.
dagoo98 03-17-2004, 10:22 AM That is the book value for the car. If I do sell it I would be looking to get about $29,000.

Lscman 03-18-2004, 09:49 AM Dagoo,
Your car is worth $25K max with those miles. If the car had under 50K miles, It'd be different.
The dealer that offered $23K is offering top dollar for a trade.
dagoo98 03-18-2004, 11:04 AM I was just going by the information I found on the internet for the book value of the car. it said the trade in value was $23,000 and the retail value was about $30,000 with my mileage. But if what you say is in fact true, then I might as well just trade in the car to that dealer because it would be a lot simpler that way if I decide to get the E60 545i. Thanks again guys.
Boston B 03-18-2004, 03:04 PM well in Boston you can get the car at a auction where everybody is buying now for like 20k with the same mil and full loaded
Lscman 03-18-2004, 07:38 PM Dagoo,
You may think something isn't adding up here. Let me explain:
The typical 2000 BMW 540i is a lease or trade car being re-sold thru BMW as a CPO car backed by with full BMW warranty. These are the cars fetching full $30K retail. A private owner selling a car as-is with such mileage can not demand such a price. The BMW-backed CPO warranty is easily worth $5K to many folks, especially if the odometer reads over 50K. Folks buying a BMW CPO car expect the dealer to treat them like a new car buyer. In addition to CPO benefits, buyers expect the car to be gone over with a fine tooth comb. In many cases, the dealer dumps another $2-5K to properly prep a CPO car with new tires, a rim or two, repaint hood &/or fenders to address paint chips, replace brakes, struts, repl weeping oil seals or gaskets etc. Buyers are willing to pay top dollar for this service & they do not tend to haggle like somebody looking for a private owner as-is "deal". When somebody buys a CPO car and something breaks, they expect the dealer to "make it right". A $30K BMW CPO car can easily have $8K of value-added services embedded in the retail cost via CPO warranty and prep.
The premium aftermarket warranties that sell for $3K can't touch a BMW CPO warranty with a ten foot pole. In many cases, owners have to take their car to a particular shop that does not specialize in BMW service, or worse, the warranty company goes bankrupt.
dagoo98 03-19-2004, 10:41 AM ok I understand
