Hopefully the ACO and ALMS will rethink thier solution to Porsche's lobbying. There won't be much of a good GT competition between manufacturers if BMW pulls out. It'll be all of the GT3's against themselves. Porsche is running into the same problem as the BMW CSL. Power out of 6-cyl N/A motors can only go soo far. Either Porsche steps up to the competition (which they can't) or BMW backs off of the V8 power. Someone's got to give, but for the sanctioning bodies to regulate soo much that BMW can't meet the expectation is ridiculous itself.

yeah, i hope that bmw still runs the gtr's in alms and lemans. it wouldn't be as interesting to watch if it was only prototypes, c5's, saleens, vipers, and pcars.

I haven't had a chance to think about it much but my guess is that the rule change stems from the Porsche crew. It sounds too coincidental that they said ok, the M3 could race as long as 50 were going to be produced and then change? They want the M3's in b/c it brings lots of fans. So why would they change?:dunno

As I read between the lines of this article, I would bet the factory will build the GTR for the road in some form to satisfy the homologation rules. Porsche has built racing specials like this for years stemming all the way back to the 917. Porsche built

The V8 M3s are very cool and they do seem to have an unfair advantage at the moment. I went ot the Petit Lemans and while the BMWs did not run away from the Porsches, they were clearly faster. The four factory supported Porshes were also much faster than the privateer Porsches, they even sounded different.

I hope that both sides can find a happy median as the ALMS is a great series. We are really in a heyday of road racing and I hope it continues.

You saw it in pics or on the road?? You prob. have a 1 in an billion chance of seeing it in the us on the road. You would have to get a temp. pass which is hard to get. I saw it at Road Atlanta in the pits and it looked SWEET!!! BMW makes supercars all the time. Look at the MX5 which lapped Nurburgring in around 8:30 with the McLaren Engine in it.

Ya Never Know!!:D

oh men it would suck if the M3 GTR don't run this year... that's why i save up 35 bucks each year jus to go out to sears point to see the M3 kill the porsches in the ALMS... if BMW can make those 50 M3 GTR that would be awesome... never would want BMw to get out of the GT class or run with the GTS... i don't think the M3 will be able to run with the saleen viper and C5R since they are more powerful... all in all BMW should make the 50 GTR's and run again in the le mans... i'd buy a GTR :D only if i had 250,000:help :bawl

I've recently heard that Porsche has yet to call Alex Job Racing to confirm if they'll give some backing for ALMS. They are still pissed about the V8 M3's and not sure if they'll waste their time and money to compete. If Porsche decides not to sponsor AJR then they may run a LMP675 Prototype car w/ a VW turbocharged 4-cyl motor next season.
