Is it common for 2002 owners to install turbos into their non-turbo cars? Do the turbo systems from original 2002 Turbo's the way to go? What other modifications would have accompany a turbo'd 2002? Cost, practicality?
Any answers or links would be great, thanks guys!

There are a lot of 2002 owners that put a turbo kit on, but the ones that take it to the next level are in europe.

I have manifolds and the turbo for the BAE kit that I am looking to get rid of in the near future. With how much more turbo components they are nowadays, I would never use the factory setup. It was nice for its day but VERY dated. The fuel injection for the factory turbo is pretty crappy. If I was going to turbo my 02 I would at least like to have an intercooler, a setup that was never intended with the factory setup. The way the intake manifold was, it wanted a tube straight from the exahaust manifold.

Not many people have installed them, it can be done. There are a few different ways to go it. The factory turbo wasn't too powerful and with new turbo's you can get much more power. Check out www.bmw2002faq.com, Pat Allen on the forum has a turbo as well as a few other people, they can answer any questions you have abotu the turbos.
I hope this helps.

Thanks.
Are there any online retailers you know of that sell 'kits' intended for non-turbo 2002's?

Top End Performance can get you everything you need for a monster turbo motor but many people have had a bad time dealing with them (including me), although things might have changed.
I would recommend doing a little research on the BMW 2002 FAQ, there are cheaper ways to put a turbo into an 02 than buying a "kit" or "built engine". Some people find a turbo out of an old Ford or Mitsu then have someone built an exhaust manifold and use a fuel injection system from a Ford Capri (I think, but I'm not sure) or the injection from a E30 318.
There is plenty of information out there and I recommend doing a lot of research before trying anything like this.
If you have any more questions let me know!

In the mean time, they can source all the parts and are really cool guys to deal with. They are helping me setup my turbo m20/2002.

You got any pics of the install? I'd love to see the Turbo M20 in there.

I don't have any pics of the full setup yet. I only had the motor in the car long enough to make sure everything fit and to pull some measurements. The motor is at the machine shop and the rest of the parts are scattered around between various shops being finished and powder coated. I should have everything together in the next couple weeks if things go well and I will post some pics then. For now, here is a little teaser. :D
