I just put a deposit on a black/black 92 535/5 speed. Can't wait to pick her up!!
Anyways, I was thinking about running style 19's from my e39. I know I need hubcentric rings. Do I need anything else? Where a good place to buy the rings?

BTW, the style 19's are 17x8, I'm not sure of the offset. Here's a quick pic of them. Do you think they'll look good on an e34?

Rings are about $4 apiece from tirerack or discount tire. I do not believe you need anything else.

yup, all you need is the hub centric rings. You should come to my E34 Fest meet I'm going to be having.

I am having the same problem, is there any part number or reference for this item. Also, How large of a ring do you need for E39 wheels on to an E34.

Thanks in advance

You need to adapt a ~73mm hub to a ~74mm bore on the E39 wheels.

The typical spacer that is used is marked '74.1 - 72.6' - there's a little error there to make them fit nice and snug.

Discount Tire has them, I know because I've picked mine up there. Tirerack will as well - if you call them. Discount gave me my rings for free (without an included purchase, even) - if you buy them off this genius (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7912962352&category=42614&sspagename=WDVW) on ebay - you're truly a sucker. ;)

E39 rims will fit with no problem on an E34. I put my E39 rims on my E34 and haven't had problems.

Of course they fit, the bolt pattern and offset are the same.

However, the wheels are hub centric - this means that the weight of the car is supported in the majority by the interaction between the extended center ring on the car's wheel hub, and the matching bore on the hub of the actual wheel. The lugs do not carry the weight of the car, they hold the wheel to the hub.

If you aren't using a adaptor ring to bring the size of the E34 hub up the extra 1mm to the size of the E39 wheel, then you're forcing the wheel lugs to hold the weight of the car. This is NOT a good idea because the wheel is allowed to slip its axis relative to that of the hub. If you don't manage to get the wheel mounted perfectly (which you won't likely be able to do), the car will shake as if the wheel was out of balance. This shaking if allowed to persist for a decent amount of time, will also probably cause the lugs to loosen or stretch over time - and this si not good.

You NEED a set of adapting rings to mount E39 wheels on a E34. The car WILL shake without them. If you aren't feeling it, your shocks are doing a good job of dampening it - but eventually it'll wear them out.

I do have the hubrings on the E39 wheels. 74.1mm to 72.6mm

Why, is buying from him a bad idea. Is the product garbage. The shipping alone from the States to Canada is about that much and I can not find anyone here that sells them that small. I can buy a 10 mill ring and have it milled down. but that is going to be close to $50.00. So I guess my search will continue. But thank you for all the information so far. I will check with my tires shop to see what they can do about having some shipped up with one of there packages.

TireRack part number A670.

I recommend getting two sets, throw the spare set in the trunk. The rings are aluminum and very thin... chances are good that a tech removing your wheels will bugger one up at some point. Better to have a $15 "insurance policy" than deal with a wheel vibrating until a new ring order arrives.

BTW, those are great-looking wheels. Please post pics on your E34 (which sounds like a great car too, the M30 6-cylinder is still one of BMW's technology and quality high points).
