I went down to the SCCA autox on Saturday. It was pretty cool, but I couldn't stay long thanks to lots of homework. I may have to become an SCCA member now that I found out that my car would run Street Mod. I'll get my ass kicked for sure, but at least I'll have fun doing it :D

damn, those dirty runs cost me on day 2! oh well, still good enough for 4th, but 2nd would have been better. :)

it was great to meet everyone! sorry couldn't really socialize too much... i was in "race mode" ;)

Ryan-

Are you interested in a set of 245/40-17 A3S03's?

I have a set that have never been mounted sitting in trashbags. Since, I flared the car, I don't really have any use for them. I'll sell them for $600, which is over $200 off the normal price. Let me know, and I'll bring them down to Norton.

Congrats on the finish at SD, and yes I can sympathize with the cone problems.

Gary,

Hehe, those drasted orange things just kept throwing themselves at our cars. ;)

That was a dang good scratch you had on Saturday, and your 3rd run on Sunday was ballistic! I didn't have the balls to hang it out there on the 3rd run Sunday after those two dirties and that let Randy pull away and Bret sneak in. Oh well, better a half second penalty than a 2 second penalty. :) Did you see Bob run his last run? He was also all dirty before that and he ran a 47.5 running in the MIDDLE OF THE COURSE. O_O He must have been 5 feet off of the cones in the downhill!

On the tires, let me discuss that with my co-driver. It sounds like a great deal, but we're also looking at the S04's for Atwater. I'll let you know in the next few days.

The main problem we have at this point is getting all the tires back up here. If you recall, we had Bob Tunnell's wheels (thanks Bob!) on new A3S03's because our Koseis with old A3S03's didn't arrive on the hauling rig we arranged until the middle of the night on Saturday and mounting on Saturday morning would have been tricky, if not outright risky. We were going to throw/give away the old tires, but now we're having to figure out how to get 8 wheels and tires back up to Seattle. Adding 4 more won't help the situation, but I'll let ya know. :)

Ryan, you can use truck freighting! Thats how I got my furniture from Seattle to Fremont when I moved for school it was cheap as hell too.

Congrats to Ryan!
We finally got the car working reasonably well, but MAN! all that elevation change was just making me crazy! I think the cones were sliding down the hill on the slippery asphalt and hitting my car....couldn't have been me.......

ANyhow, it was great meeting some of you guys for the first time, hope to see you all again soon!

I too was attacked by cones on my first two runs on Saturday. Luckily (?) for me I didn't know I was carrying a cone on my first run as well. Some of those cones were so tiny they felt like a crack in the pavement. I say luckily because I didn't back off and still got a decent clean run. It's tough to put the pedal down when you're sitting on cones.

Congrats Ryan, now you HAVE to go to Nationals! After all, you just beat a multi-time National Champion.

Ryan,

Great job driving.

Nice to meet you, and some of the other forum members. Wish we had more time to talk. Karl and I did our best to keep up with the rest of SM on our Victoracers, and at least we had fun, and the car was handling well. We just have to push the car harder next time.

And Eric, the elevation change is what all the fun is about. :D

And yeah, I coned my best run on Sunday too, but it wouldn't
have changed my position, just the time. :(

Gee, now I feel like an outcast, sitting all the way over in grid spot 25 (the lone Bimmer in DS). My attention zone during runs is only about ten feet wide. Well, maybe in San Bernardino...

Thanks to Mark S and Bob T for helping us figure out our tire pressure issues. 60 psi seemed like an awful for the fronts, but it worked great. We just lost a lot of rubber on the outside corners of the front before asking around (smart huh?). I did not expect such a change when going from Victoracers (48/38 psi) to A3SO4s (60/46).

well the lack of an LSD finally reared it's ugly head and bit me sqarely on the azz this past weekend. Never had wheelspin issues before running on the SD lot. Even the asphalt lots back east have way more grip. I was even spinning the outside rear tire like mad in 3rd gear coming across the finish line on Saturday :95 Despite not being able to keep the rearend planted under me, cone problems, and sound issues I still had a great time :buttrock

Hope to make it back again for future events

Mark, it was nice to meet you. (I guess I did get over to grid spot 23.)

I take it the sound issue is what caused your DSQs on Sunday? How far over were you, and how did you end up fixing the issue?

Rich V
03-08-2004, 11:39 PM
Your z4 was pretty loud, and I'm sure it didn't help that the side pipes were pointed at the sound meter on Sunday!

I too felt the rath of the cones. Coned myself out of 3rd place (last trophy spot) on Sunday!

Definitely nice meeting some of you for the first time off the board.

ah gee guys, thanks - you're making me feel so warm and fuzzy. :embarrasm it's a wonderful bimmerforums lovefest. :3some hehe, j/k. but seriously, maybe we should all sport a sticker and have a barbecue or something at the next big event.

jerry, you guys cleaned up, so congrats to you and glenn too! as for nationals, i'm nowhere near where i need to be yet, but we'll see after the bremerton tour timeframe. the main thing i have to work on is consistency. if you look at my times, it looks like a bomb hit them and one time survived each day. i guess running those practice events in bremerton a few weekends back may have helped with speed, but hurt with keeping it clean... F(scratch)TOD macho contests those practices end up being. ;)

damnit! I always tried to get ahold of people from the SCCA for those bremerton and everett events, I would have been out there with my old 240!

Yeah, it was mega great meeting all of you. Mark... I didn't formerly introduce myself, but I was the putz that had to tell you to quiet down yesterday after your first run...

...I would have recognized those wheels anywhere!

some video (didn't get the good runs on film... funny how that works)
my 1st run on day 2. ran over a cone on the uphill and had a bobble coming out of the c-box. otherwise an ok run. i got .5 seconds off of it for my 2nd run but hit a cone on that, too (didn't get on video) i knew where there was another .5-1s out there from the 2nd run, but couldn't go for it on the 3rd run after sitting on cones after 2 runs.

jerold's 2nd run of day 2 (in sm2). good run until the end. missing a shift can have very dramatic effects...

Saturday was crap for me. Hittiing cones on every run and being between second and third through the whole course screwed up my chances for good placement. Was 8th out of 11 after day one. Sunday was a lot better. Finished second for that day in class, but that was still only good enough for 6th overall. I need to keep it clean next time. Atwater, here i come.
