I was on I-35 (in Dallas) heading north about 10am this morning, doing about 60 in the middle lane.

A black 740i sport (I think--it was debadged) with really dark tint blew by me on my left rather quickly, but got trapped in traffic way ahead of me. I sped up and caught up to him. The rear tires were huge and it had exposed exhaust. No extra body cladding that I could see. It was not pimped out, just very sleek.

As I got close, a spot opened in front of me and he moved right and SHOT away--it sounded like he had open pipes on it! I could clearly hear it inside my car. I tried to give chase but he left me sitting still. I caught up a couple of times thanks to traffic, but couldn't get too close.

When we hit 190, traffic had started to dissipate and he just disappeared--that car flew. I have never heard a 7 that was that loud and that fast. Was this anyone on the board???

Jack,

In another thread, you mentioned that you may be looking to move into a 2001 Sport later this year. This being said, I have to ask, why, beyond the obvious...(newer car)?

A quick concession, if you were to drop a SC into it (as you also mentioned), different story.

Otherwise, with all the mods on your '95, you would be getting a slower car that didn't handle as well but that had more bells and whistles...sounds like you may be getting soft. :chix

Tell me it ain't so!

LOL - good question, Reed. I have been thinking about a newer car for the obvious reasons, but also from a practical sense. At what point do you stop modding an older car? The SC has forced me to evaluate whether I want to dump another $8k into my ride, or something newer. ...and if I get an 01 sport, I could start over with a decent BBK, consider the SC (comes with a new "brain"), and have the final year of a great model to carry me through the Bangle mess. ....and I'm getting soft... :D

Hmmm, after re-reading the post, I now detect an insatiable need for speed - how could I have missed this the first time? :conf:

It sounds like you are (mentally at least) pretty far along with the SC idea. Given that, I agree that you might as well get the '01 (which has really grown on me, BTW, the pre-1999 front end does look dated by comparison).

Would you pull the diff and BBK (if/when sorted) from your '95 and restore it to original (and then install these on your '01) or am I getting too far ahead here?

Sorry, the diff won't work on anything but a 95 - and I sent the old one back as a core... The buyer will end up getting a steal if this stuff is important to them. The BBK will go to the buyer - I am going to start over with something different. The SC? Well that still remains an open question. I really want the extra 100 HP, but will only move forward with the right shop - and we don't have one around here... I have a few months to think about it - this won't happen until after my latest house project is done...
