Can anyone recommend a transmission shop in the Northern VA area (preferably Arlington/Alexandria/FFX)?

I am trying to find a quality shop that ca rebuild a a Euro 6spd tranny.

Yeah, be VERY careful which shop you take your car to. I would pay more if it means having the job done right.

I asked the same question and took my car to a place that someone recommended. I was having touble getting my car in and out of gear on a 155K mile clutch. I was 99% positive that the clutch was bad but just wanted the shop to check out the tranny. I was told that the 2nd gear was broken and that the 2nd gear synchro was bad.

I did my own searching and found out that a spring falling out of the clutch disk was the culprit.

My advice, get back all the parts that they change. That will hopefully ensure that they actually do change the parts. If there is a shop that is known to do really good work but charges more than most places....still take your car there. It will only create more problems for you down the road.

Good luck, man.

I'd strongly advise you to consider shipping it to Brett Anderson (Koala Motorsport) or Jim Blanton (Blanton Transmissions). Brett may even be able to provide you a shipping crate.

Thanks.

I have a call into Jim. I've heard many good things about him.

I called Jim Blanton and thought I'd share me results.

I had been looking at a Getrag w/a bad 3rd gear. The price was low, so I thought I could get it and have it rebuilt for less than a 'new' unit.

Well, it turns out that BMW has never released the parts or numbers for these trannys. Jim said he couldn't do anything with it. He wasn't sure how BMW ever got away with this, but the only way he has been able to do a rebuild in the past has been w/ 2 units.

Anyways, it seemed like a good idea. Too bad it didn't work out.
