We corner balanced a customer's Evo and our STi today. The biggest challenge was balancing despite the picnic tables on the back of the vehicles, but we got through eventually :)

Few pics of the STi numbers without the driver and full tank of gas are below. The Evo overall was 80 lbs lighter without the spare and 1/2 tank of gas.

It turned into a small party for sure :)

I'm really curious what an M would be..

edit: Isn't a spare and 7 gallons of gas almost 80 pounds?

It is faster than all STis in the Mid-Atlantic :devillook, But am I faster than you or others??? That is another question

vjlax - any time we can schedule it and our fees are much lower than area race shops, and I'll do the CCA discount too :awink:

I know for a fact that my car and driver are much slower.

I am looking into getting some pinks and links in the fall, though, and I like the fact that you're trying out a bunch of this stuff.

Pinks are good with the Group N tops, but not as much as people make it out to be :)

If you are serious about autoxing or tracking, then Pinks may be a little bit of waste of money. You might want to look into full coilovers, but that's just my opinion ;)

You should consider either a Cobb or Hotchkiss 25 mm front A/R bar though if you are staying in stock this season, they are really effective.

I think Rob's goal is to eliminate the bucking-bronco ride of the factory STi setup.

Still, someone's been bitten by the mod bug... :D

I can certainly relate to that. When I first got the STi, the biggest suprise to me what the overall suspension setup. Especially compared to my 330Ci SP suspension and wheel/tire combo. IMHO the suspension is the weakest part of the STi.

But there are also a lot of exagerated and misleading reports out there about what do to with the suspension. Many people think that if a part carries Subaru or STi logos on the part, it has to be the solution.

There is a significant mismatch between the stock shocks' ratings and spring rates on the STi, and the so-called "Pink" springs do make the ride better while improving roll couple. With the Group N strut top mounts, which are basically hardened rubber mounts, the STi becomes certainly more agile. The Pinks introduce about a 35% higher spring rate and raise the fronts to 257 lbs/in. and something like 23x lbs/in. in the rear, as I remember on top of my head.

And I know, that must sound laughable compared to the spring rates mostly used on Bimmers :)

The Pinks and Group N strut top mounts together run close to $700 with shipping  I think if anyone is going to upgrade the springs for the purposes of higher performance in some sort of competition, it is better to spend money on coilovers and get the full benefits from them.

The new coilovers we put onto the STi carry about 2.7 x higher spring rates than stock, and believe it or not, the ride overall is more pleasent to me. Of course that is mostly due to the proper valving of the shocks and because I don't mind increased noises in the cabin as it is a track car. Daily drivers may disagree ;)

So, I guess my point is that Rob should think twice before spending money on the Pinks and buy them with the right reasons and expectations :)

I can get the pinks very cheap(well under 300), so I was considering them. The reviews I've read have favored the pinks over the eibachs and other springs as far as taking away the bouncy ride while keeping the performance decent.

The car is already way faster than my driving ability, and I'm having a hard time convincing myself to keep the throttle buried to reduce the lag effects.

I'd consider the coilovers if they were a reasonable price, though.

You are right, I'd get the Pinks as well over the Eibachs as well. Decent coilovers are well over $1300, and the best bang for the buck, I think, is the Tein SSP with EDFC as a street setup.

Where are you getting the Pinks for less than $300? I'd love to get them at that price as well :)

It's a nasioc vendor, I can Pm you the details if you're interested.

I'm not sure if they take subarubucks, which would make my decision a lot easier :)

Yes, please PM the details if you don't mind.

Thank you.

I just checked, and they are under $400, not under $300. I was checking them out for a friend, so I wasn't paying close attention to the details after I forwarded the info, sorry. $360 isn't too shabby, though, I guess.

Aah, OK. Yes, $360 is not bad, it is on the lower price bracket. We get them for $380 with shipping included, but don't sell them individually, but only in one of our street packages that will come out soon.

Thank you for checking Rob.
