View Full Version : radio does not recieve my fav. station
Ridgeway 02-25-2004, 12:06 AM This has been an issue since the car was purchased, but I usually listen to a cd in the car, so it hasn't bothered me too much...but I probally should get it looked into while the car/radio etc is under warrenty.
The problem specifically is that the OEM business cd headunit does not recieve my fav station(105.1 :)). Depending on the area it will get it very weakly(ie an area w/o obstructions on high ground...). But most of the time its 95% static.
Now this is a fairly weak station relativly speaking, but every other car that I've been in recieves it.
I can't think of a reason why this would be- every other station is recieved just fine...
any ideas, or should i just take it to the dealer(have just been waiting till it goes in for routine service/oil change)
thx
lorenzocal 02-25-2004, 01:06 AM Now understand I know diddly about radios, but isn't there something called an "azimuth" setting on radios that needs to be calibrated right or stations don't come in properly?

never heard of such a thing...how would it be "recalibrated" & would it not be odd that there is but one station that is not recieved(unless there are others that they won't recieve that I just don't listen to...)
Boy, you guys sure have weird problems... give me a fautly bsuhing, but a radio not picking up a station, a service light that keeps coming on... Gee...
Isn't that an excuse to get an aftermarket unit? :devillook

I'd rather not spend hundreds to fix such a minor issue, plus I don't think an aftermarket unit would look good @ all in the Z4, with how the console is tilted & all....hmm...

Huh... that wasn't an insult, man! :dunno
My point was, a faulty mechanical part is always better than those electronic gizmos. Whether or not it was BMW's fault was not important. Even if it was... it happens.
But you're right about the Z3 never having any issues.
Except for the rattling glovebox. And the wacky gas gauge. And the crummy stereo. And the cracking diff mounts. And... :D :12:

as long as your vehicle was produced prior to June/03 and has the #677 Premium Sound System option they should try to execute the TSB free of charge, but whether or not it fixes your problem ... :dunno

TeamZ4 02-25-2004, 06:41 PM well it look like there was another possibility too:
TSB 65 10 03
CD53 Radio: Poor Reception In FM Mode
Released: 1-Mar-2003 CD53
Affects: Radio (option 662) from 10/2002
Ridgeway 02-25-2004, 07:08 PM hmm...interesting- I guess the dealer can decide which, I'll be giving them a call tomarrow...thx
btw I checked the production date on my Z, is 1/03.
///MDriver 02-25-2004, 07:58 PM I went into the dealer once and told them that my radio in my three series wasn't picking up certain AM stations and they just replaced the headunit NQA.
TeamZ4 02-25-2004, 08:25 PM yeah, the BMW business radio is known to have issues
good luck
