my original equipment radio (98 M3) has performed flawlessly since new, except now the volume switch is not functional--the knob spins with little or no effect on volume level-if it works at all it is often in reverse-i.e. sound gets louder with counterclockwise motion-dealer says volume knob is not fixable-better to replace the unit--SO::are they correct?????if it is junk, any recommendations on what to get instead???I would prefer it to fit cleanly in the existing tray/slot and to be lit like the original

try pullling the knob out maybe? to see whats wrong..

yeah-knob comes off and the spindle spins freely with no real effect on volume. except in reverse and then only sometimes-I am assuming there are decent repalcement units that are reasonable, but its a shame to replace the whole unit for a damned voulume control

get a better aftermarket deck...
