Marco has again graciously decided to open his home to the local Bf.c'ers to install whatever stuff you have lying around! :D

We'll meet at Marco's pad just off Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw at 12:00, high noon this Sunday the 29th.

For those that have never been to an installfest, you show up (preferably with beer and food ;) ), gather some help or assist others with their installations, eat, drink, and have a good 'ole time! :mdrbig

Directions to Marco's:

From 75 North Bound

Exit off 267a (Canton Rd. North), follow the exit ramp, go through 1st light, (Sandy Plain Rd), continue north bound, about 3/4 miles will be a Race Track Gas Station on your left. There will be a light right after Race Track. Go through the light, about 200 yards, take the first left onto Westerly Lane, then Right onto Fraser Rd, about 200 yards, Left on Bounty, and left on Woodridge Rd. House is on the left # 2306. 2 stories brick front.

From 75 South Bound

Exit off Barrett Pkwy exit (269). Take a left onto Barrett Pkwy. Go past 575 & continue on Barrett Pkwy. Go pass Bells Ferry Rd. (Barrett Pkwy will turns into E.Piedmont Rd) Take a right onto Canton Rd. (Eckerd Drug store on your right). Continue South on Canton Rd. Take a right onto Westerly Ln, (if you pass Race Track Gas Station) turn around. Then Right on Fraser Rd, Left onto Bounty. Left onto Woodridge Dr. House on left #2306 2 stories brick Front.

Please remember to bring your own tools (Marco has a jack and 4 jackstands), BYOB and food ( Marco will provide a grill).

#404.423.6460...call if lost.

Important:

Post what you're installing and what tools you'll be bringing so we can plan accordingly. Also...Marco doesn't allow fluid swaps, so no tranny/coolant/diff/engine oil/etc. changes.

This is a great chance to come out and meet some new folks and re-acquaint yourself with the "regulars." Also, if you don't have anything to install, that's cool too. Just bring yourself and hang out...no promises that you won't be asked to help, though! :stickoutt

Questions? Ask them here or PM me or Aaron (Ron17).

Seriously guys, I need to install the stuff in my sig:

1) TME's
2) SSK
3) RSMs
4) Maybe a guibo...

Oh yeah, and I bought some H&R Sport Springs tonight. Anyone think it's a DIY? If so, come help!

Anyone done these that will be coming? I'll bring the beer & brats :) And not that shitty stuff I brought last time as a novelty... Milwalkee Special Reserve. ich. "special" my ass.

It depends on if the new racecar is ready for testing. If not, I will be in town and will probably stop by for a while. Haven't been to Marco's pad in quite a while....

Make sure you have a 32mm(or 1 1/4" same thing) open wrench for the fan, and a 6mm(I think) long allen wrench to loosen the tensioner.

A torque wrench is a must have for the crank pulley too, I wouldn't want to have grossly differing torques on the 6 bolts that hold it on.

Oh yea, enjoy the power. Crank pulleys rock your world.

As for the H&R Sports, don't install them until you have a set of aftermarket shocks. I strongly recommend Koni SA's.

Read sig. I already have Bilsteins on H&R OE Sports.

I also recomend Koni SA's but the budget doesn't allow that at this time. In the meantime, this will partially solve my wheel gap problem. :)

I predict dire consequences and confiscation of said v12 if you don't. ;)

I should make it, nothing planned for Sunday as of this morning...

I have an underpanel and brake pads to install, nothing too bad.

I can/will bring:

hydraulic jack
ramps
2 jackstands
tools (elec. driver, english/metric sockets, pliers, allen wrenches, etc)
32mm open-ended wrench for the crank pulley install

and most important: food and beverages.

I am going to try and make it. I would like to install springs on my M3 (e46), but I only have a very basic set of sockets and wrenches. Last time I did suspension I had access to a full garage and air tools. That was nice :D

Anyway, besides a spring compressor what else would I need? I have never done this swap on a BMW so I am not quit sure what to expect. It looks straight forward though.

like everyone is saying, i would not install springs w/o upgrading your struts also. save time and money by doing both at the same time.

That makes sense, but since I just bought the car, bought other mods, and wheels are coming soon, I really don't have another $500 to blow on nice springs/struts. Also, with it being DYI or DIWH (do it with help : ) ) It only saves time not install money. All the other spring jobs I have done have only taken about 2 hours with 2 people so not too bad. From others I have talked to the ride should be fine, but I will need the shocks and struts in about 10k miles. Gives me plenty of time to justify spending more money :astromile Also, I confirmed Konis will still work if I put the stock springs back on to sell the car. Anyway, I do agree with you, but it is either struts or wheels now and I would rather have the wheels :buttrock

Assuming the mail comes on time, I will be there to install power steering pump and water pump pulleys. Do I need any special tools to do this? I have an extensive set of sockets, ratchets and wrenches that I will bring with me. I can bring other tools if anyone needs them. My brother has a workshop out back with all sorts of tools in it.

I’ll also be installing Jim Conforti’s performance software. I don’t think I will need any help with that, but someone can hold my hand and sing while I do it.

I just talked to the people Bonneville Motorwerks and they told me that I do need to use a charger to ensure that the voltage does not fluctuate. If it fluctuates, the software can become corrupted and win my computer a trip to California for reprogramming. Thanks for the heads-up everyone.

Which is it? I just got the wiring guide for my Intelliguard 7000 to fix my door lock issue. IMO, if you have this guide you could probably wire it yourself assuming you knew what you were doing and did it right.

Maybe I'll bring my clutch arm bushing to install. Should be pretty simple.

Any welding capabilities gonna be there? I would be surprised but would love to weld on some rear sway reinforcement brackets so I can install UUC sway barbarians.

Is anybody interested in buying a set of 4 stock double-spoke II's (style 22)? The tires don't have much tread left (one of the fronts is to the chords) and the rims have some curb rash. Might be a good fixer-upper for somebody. Let me know if interested and I can send pics and/or bring them out tomorrow.

I am new to the area and not familiar with 75 or the best way to get there from Jefferson, GA. sorry

I'll just call marco, thanks.

Thats ok, didn't know you were new to the area.

Wow, you've got a long drive. Just head down 85 to 285 west. Take 75 north and use the first option.

There really is no other good way. You could take 20 across, but it'll take you twice as long with traffic and lights.

It was nice meeting everybody! What a nice day for such an event!

Looking forward to future meets. Maybe next time we can have a Car Wash-fest! I would be willing to conduct some demonstrations on washing, drying, clay bar, buffing, synthetic glazing, etc. Or we could have oil change fest, that would be a mess! another theme could be RTAB installfest or find a similar item we all need installed (like today was pullies and underpanels) :D

Leif, I'll be more than happy to work on your CD player/speakers this week. I quit my part time job at the mall so I'm free Mon & Wed. Give me a call anytime tomorrow if you're interested. Also I ordered my springs from Micah Thursday. H&R Sports. I heard that H&R was not consistant about their lowering figures on their springs. Some sports are low and some are higher than factory.. dono we'll see.

He's out of town for the next two days, but yes... we did get his tranny mounts finished. Finally got that top nut to break loose.

After that, it's a *relatively* painless install.

He said he has a good deal more NVH, so we may have to loosen things back up and re-torque. :dunno

I might not want to tackle any major scratches... but I do have a meguires video with professional detailing techniques, they cover wet sanding and high powered buffing.

I just have a small Porter-cable random orbital buffer. its pretty safe just not very aggressive.

zeit00
03-01-2004, 11:10 AM
Be VERY careful wetsanding and hi-speeding clearcoat. Improper technique will ruin the paint on a car. I would not recommend doing a wetsand and leaving a high-speed to a professional. But that is my opinion ;)

I know that I should.

The weather the past two weeks has not been conducive to washing a car (until this weekend). Plus, I don't know when I'll have time to do it or the place to do it.

Maybe I'll go out to Athens this week and we'll use the carwash bay at the dealership.

I need to clay/wax my car, as well.

if its the blue zymol wax in a big bottle (IE the runny stuff) then its not worth spending your time to put it on. I use Zaino and its amazing, try going for a synthetic wax. Autogeek.com provides us with a 10% discount and you can get the s100 (I believe) wax which is the same as the P21s except for motorcycles. Should last for a few good months instead of only a few weeks which non synthetic waxes tend to do. We should have a detail fest though, I know kyle is good with detailing too.

I'm so down for a detail fest. Parking my car on the street has gotten it ruled time and again and its only been here for 2 months. :(

Last time it snowed people thought it would be sweet to scrape the snow off my roof and they scratched it to hell... and the dealer swirled it up.... so I'd be willing to do a Porter Cable/swirl removal demo on my car. :D

Thanks Ali, I'll take it from here. ;)

Yeah, the liquid Zymol is a cleaner wax, and is basically Turtle Wax with some different perfumes and coloring in it.... basically, its worthless. Synthetics are definately a good choice if you want something that'll last a long time, I've personally only used Klasse which is a 2 step system (All in One and Sealant Glaze). It leaves a good shine and will very easily last 6 months between applications.

S100/P21S (the same thing as Ali stated) aren't synthetics, but its pretty much the best carnuba available, especially for the price (the only thins that really compete cost between 2 and 4 times as much :az: ) It'll last about 2 months which is actually a long time for carnuba (Meguiar's Gold Class will last about half that long for comparison). It goes on easy as hell, removes easier, and doesn't mark up plastic trim at all.

Anyway, I don't want to hijack this thread anymore...check out the Show and Shine form and feel free to PM if anybody wants more random detailing info.

;)

Kyle K. makes some pretty good points.

Last winter I followed the detailing guide put together by "David" in the detailing forum. It was awesome!!! time consuming for sure but the results were amazing. After driving 94k+ miles my car sure was in need of a deep down cleaning. Just washing and waxing can only get your car so clean. All the sap, tar, tire chunks (following too closely at the track), bugs, dirt, whatever comes off pretty nice with clay bar.

For your really serious swirls, the PC buffer might be a bit mild. It will help, and I hear if you perform enough applications you can get down far enough in the clearcoat, but it might take a while. the major steps are still out of my league, but then again, if its somebody else's car I might be more brave. hmm, i might have some sandpaper in my tool box... :D

seriously tho, if you guys are interested maybe the first weekend in april or last weekend in march I can host something like this. It would be impossible to detail everybody's car top-to-bottom but would be a good learning experience.

Hornswoggler
03-01-2004, 03:36 PM
BTW,
I use the Klasse All-In-One and Sealant Glaze as well. its been absolutely awesome, looks better than any previous carnuba wax application.

The most amazing part of the process (IMO) will be the clay bar. If you guys haven't used one yet, you are in for a treat! It takes some work but well worth it.

That's interesting Aaron because when we did my TM's last year everything went smoothly and I have had 0 problems with them since the install. I even had the torque checked last month and the bolts were still tight as could be after a year of driving.

I would definitely be down for a detail fest. Traveling between Texas and GA 4 times a year can definitely take its toll on paint.

Well, I'm back in town and as you can seee, have responded to some threads. Here's the rest of the story...

While I got some stuff done, Installed Aaron's MF, did clutch arm bushings and TME's, I didn't get to do what I really wanted to do - my new SSK. I thought there was going to be more than 4 jack stands... oh well. BTW Micah, I checked and the selector rod I got is a "Modified" (bent) selector rod. This helps with the Effort reduction but I'm going to weight it myself to further reduce the effort.

To all that are looking to do the clutch arm bushings... I was looking for it to get rid of the squeak - didn't happen. They may be great for getting rid of side to side play but even with grease, didn't help the squeak.

I also didn't get to do my RSMs but that should be straight forward. Karl, no problem, If I haven't done them before the next installfest, I'll get you to help me out. ;)

The engine compartment is getting a refresher. If any of you looked at it, it needs some work. The PO didn't take good care of the engine compartment and it needs some painting and new plastic. Next meet, it should be sparkling.

Got some new, wider tires for the rear wheels. Some of you may have noticed my two wheel effect (Racing Dynamics w/ Motorsports :biglaughb ) Anyway, that'll be remedied as well.

Colin and Todd, you guy's paint looks awesome! I send a detail-fest!

Anyway, that's all I've got. Thanks again for the help. It was a fun time.
