Hi Guys;

In continuation of my previous thread: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=177280

Ok, my 97 z3 2.8 with M50 manifold and S52 (US M3 cams) AA supercharger project is nearing completion. The car fired up last night and idles very smoothly which is a big bonus :boobies:clap: :buttrock :evil2 :evil2 :evil2

No vacuum, oil, or any other type of leaks detected so far. I'll take some pictures on Saturday and post them up here as well as take her to a dyno to check the numbers.

The car is runing the new 8 psi kit (old one was the 8.5) and is rated at 322 with a stock 2.8 at the crank. With the manifold and cams I should get a bit more. I also have a bored out throttle body, turner motorsport headers and exhaust. Ideally like to see around 280-290 at the wheels when I'm done.

Good news, I was able to retain my Rouge Engineering pulleys (water pump and power steering)!!! The provided belt was used and it all fit quite tightly which I'm hoping will eliminate any chance of belt slippage. Took 3 people to get on; 1 to crank the engine, one to guide the belt and one to hold the tensioner back.

Like I said, pictures coming soon :)

Best regards,

T.

Hopefully you'll have 280-290, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Most of the 3.2 M3 owners are putting down that much with the 8.5psi kit.

Wow. All of my power, all of my traction, but less of my weight. Your car will be a blast to drive!

Do you mean your new kit runs less psi than the old kits? I though all of them run ~8psi. Do you have the 90mm SC pulley? I have the 85mm.

Did you tell AA about your UDP's? Were they ok with it? I think the UDP will make up the drag from the low end and the SC will take over when your gears go up.

Yes, I have the 90mm SC pulley; hence it's rated at only 8psi.

I did tell them about the pulleys, but the belt is stock length. Those pulleys only add about a milimeter to the original size so the belt lenght difference is marginal.

The older kits had the 85mm pulley and were therefore rated at 8.5psi. AA increased the pulley size to decrease the speeed of the impeller in the SC in order to increase the life expectancy.

Traction wise it should be alright... I've got 275s on 19's in the back ;), but those are just for show. For go, I've got a set of '98 M3 LTW forged 17's.

Best regards,

T.

I'm eager to find out... a stock 328 (e36) puts down 246 at the wheels. I believe that's with 18% drive loss. z3's only have 15% drive loss. So there should be a bit more rwhp to begin with. However I was quite supprised to see that the MZ3 put down 280.6 where as the e36 M3 (3.2) put down 282.6 and that was even beaten by a 95 M3 (3.0) putting down 283.5. That's with stock cars though... mine's not really stock :) (M50 manifold, M3 3.2L cams, Throttle body, headers, fan delete, pulleys, ....)

I guess we'll see, it's difficult to try to project what it will turn out to be - every car is different after all...

Nice project, can't wait to see results. I still need to get my car dynoed.
