I posted a thread in the E36 forum

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum///showthread.php?s=&postid=1915684#post1915684

However, nobody seems to know wtf a wideband is...LOL!! WTF!

Anyways, can somebody answer my questions on that thread? Looking for any experience with them, what brand is good, features, URL's for info and prices, etc. TIA, Tim

Alex posted one from AEM and that looks great. The PLX is only a digital read out the aem is both.

Im thinking of getting one the aem.

Im using an Innovate Motorsports LM-1 'data acquisition systm'.. I call it that because its alot more than a wideband. Minimally, it will log up to 45 minutes of road or dyno time with the wide band sensor connected. The CU has a window which allows you to view afr in realtime besides logging it internally. But, it also has hookups for up to 5 additional sensors..So that a good use might be to log simultaneously on the graph MAF, Scaler, TPS, IAT, rpms, and AFR. Any tuner will thank you for providing all the data together. It allows him to view the sensor voltages at any point he wishes, which makes tuning alot easier. It works well, is priced well, and Ive got no complaints with it.

Damn...that sounds nice, but maybe a bit much for me. I will look into it though. Thanks. Tim

Bump for the AEM Widband Alex is doing. I'll be in on that GB as well. Saw it in person today look pretty nice.

Innovate M's LM-1 gets my thumbs up. Cheapest one and has the most features compared to others.

LM-1 gets my *thumbs up*
Although I think mine is starting to act weird. I think I could have damaged the sensor by download data while the car was running and running the car without sensor turned on.

Oh well, sensor is only about $60 dollars...

Try ~$30 or so :). REMOVED LINK

Anyway, LM-1 gets my thumbs up too... it's a very nice unit. Very bulky, but after you're tuned you don't need to monitor your car any longer. It's a no brainer...

If you want to look at pretty lights look at the competition.

Boris

P.S. If you got the bucks, go FJO right away. I have a few buddies that use it... for the price you can't beat it (besides the LM-1 :)).

EDIT: Ok, that link doesn't work... you can see the link on the first page: http://www.wbo2.com/

What did you do exactly, and for how long did you do it?

Hey, Paul

I remember you mentioned that your LM1 was reading high 30s and 40s during warm up? Mine does that now (it didn't do that before). I followed the heater calibration routine but did the same thing at the end. It started out at 50s and was down to 30s when I turned it off and turned it back on, at which point, everything was find and dandy...Maybe it's got something to do with Smog Pump that was mentioned in LM-1 forum...

Things that I did...
I downloaded the data while the car is running (LM-1 stops heating the sensor, no no)
When LM-1 displayed error message right after I start the car, I just tuned off LM-1 and kept driving around (hot exhaust and cold sensor, no no).
I think those two things are "no no"s according to "How to ruin your WB02 sensor list" from LM-1 forum. ;)

However, I just came back from a test drive with data logging and readings are still good. Maybe my sensor is super strong...? :dunno

By the way, I am seriously considering the AEM unit for bank 2 monitoring. My narrow band (autometer AFR) gauge doesn't work too well with LM-1 wide band signal (0-1 volts, corresponding to 12.7 to 16.7). I need 52mm wide band gauge...!!!

Hey, Boris, thanks for the link. That should save me $20 or so. ;)

EXACTLY! Thats what Klaus told me. Its got nothing to do with not heating up properly. Rather, its because of our air pump. When the car first turn on, there is extra O2 going to the cats. Shortly there after, that condition stops, adn it stops reading lean. So thats the answer. Just wait til the condition passes each time you use it.

Paul, please explain me something... If I will buy the LM-1 unit... can I install the sensor in the old stock location? Can I use this wideband sensor also for my ECU ? How did you use it ? Can this sensor works on the same ECU wires? Can be powered by the ECU stock wires ? Or should I install LM-1 wires and power this sensor only from Cig lighter permanently ? Can I take out the unit and go home for download on the PC...? and then can I use the car without the LM-1 unit in the car...? Thank you.

Christian, if you goto LM1 website, they also have a forum where the techs over at Innovate can guide you through install and different techniques. Its another reason why I like this unit- awesome customer support.
