Hi all,

I am new to this forum and BMW so I hope you all will help me out.

I just bought my first BMW. It's a 2003 330Ci with Sports Package. Recently I noticed that the back of the car squeaks every time it drives though a bump on the road. It sounds like birds chirping at the back. Anyway, the car only has 13K miles on it.

Some tells me it's "normal", but I doubt BMW makes such poor quality car. (It sounds like a cab at times).

Has anyone experienced this problem before? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Denny

I have one squeak, though not very loud, it annoys me. No way to chase it though. People tell me that they can't hear it, but I know its there.

Your new car should not squeak, period.

I had noise issues with the rear-end of my 330xi (sorta like a crunching over bumps) and the dealer lubed bushings, tightened suspension components, & replaced shocks until the noise was resolved.

ive got some noises coming from my back end also, 01 325 with 17k miles. i'd suggest bringing it in for service. off hand i'd point to shocks, shock mounts, springs, or even something as simple as the tray in the trunk that covers the spare tire. mine bounces a little bit, and causes some noises to be made. it may be something similiar. i applied some foam tape to the underneath side of my tray, and it reduced the sound a lot. make sure your toolbox screw is tight. even make sure your windows are rolled up all the way, and the doors are closed tight. i've had some "ghost" sounds that disappeared when i opended the windows, and closed them, same with the doors. its worth a try if nothing else.

but i would get under the rear end and look at the shock mounts and make sure they dont appear cracked.

I spoke to a guy working at an auto shop today about the squeaking noise today. He said that it's normal. According to him, BMW has Gas Struts, so it expands/contracts during winter, hense, the squeaking noise. During warmer weather the noise will be gone.

Can anyone knowledgable confirm this assessment?

Thanks,
Denny

 I can't stand it had it in the shop they replaced the whole rear speaker system and that wasn't it. Every time I go over uneven pavement squeak squeak like a bird it really irritates me. I will have it back in the shop with the main foreman next week. I'll keep you posted.

Just came back from the dealer. GOD it was so stupid.

The folded back seat was not folded back completely.

Yeah, it's not my fault though. I have never even touched the back seat since I bought this car 2 weeks ago.

Good Luck

buy some bilstein sport shocks and improve your ride, and probably eliminate the noise. you won't be dissapointed

It's not the shocks trust me it's from inside the cabin

I have similar problem. Last my car made squeaking noise, I had to change my ball joints in the rear. Then, the noise came back. Now the service manager is telling me it's possibly from using the side break. I usually noticed the problem when someone got into my car or pushed the trunk down to recreate the noise. According to the guy, because I engage my side break, this can cause squeaking noise. Anybody believe this? I frist noticed this noise about 2-3 months ago.

Update.
I just went to the JMK BMW to pick up my car.
I found out the noise was indeed caused by my parking brake.
When I park in my garage, I always pull my parking brake. So, when I come back to my car next day, I would hear squeaking noise because of the parking brake. One problem solved. I would still want that squeaking to go away even with my parking brake on.
