View Full Version : FS: (5) - 18*8.5" BBS RK's [Ca]

Hi All,
I really don't want to get rid of my wheels, but unfortunately they will not fit a StopTech BBK... Instead of messing with somewhat large spacers, I would prefer to use some wheels that don't require any.
All wheels are straight and true, and have never had any repair work done to them... I know this for a fact, because I have owned these since new.
Some details... I have 5 wheels that are in good condition. A couple have some very minor marks -- nothing terrible or even close to obvious.
Tires on primary wheels:
(4) Bridgestone Potenza S0-3.
size: 235/35/18.
- 2 with about 40% tread life left.
- 2 just about ready to replace -- not corded, just down to wear bars.
(1) Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico.
size: 235/35/18.
- about ready to replace but will work fine as a spare -- not corded, just down to wear bars.
I'm asking $1400 for all five wheels with tires, which I would prefer to do... Or without tires for $1300.
Also, I would prefer to sell locally, so that you can see the tires and wheels first-hand, but I would be willing to ship...
I will try to take pics of the wheels soon.
If anyone is interested, please e-mail me at: bored_yoshi@hotmail.com. Thanks.

stg099 02-11-2004, 01:22 PM could you send pics to johnrbusse@hotmail.com . thanks
sunir 02-11-2004, 06:54 PM I also may be interested...please send pics to sghosal@tech-first.com
I have a Stoptech BBK 332mm rotor setup (13") kit for e36 M3 on the front of my car and 17" wheels (forgelines and IFGs in both 17 x 8" and 9") clear it fine with a 12mm spacer with plenty of room left over (could've probably clear it without the spacer also)....why would you need 15mm spacers or any spacer at all clearing this setup with an 18" wheel? Or are you thinking of clearances with the 14" Stoptech BBK with the 18" BBS RK's...even then clearance should not be an issue, should it?
thanks,
Sunir
m3yosh 02-11-2004, 07:50 PM Hi Guys,
Thank you for your interest. As I said in my previous post, I will be taking pics soon. After I do, I'll be sure to send them to you guys. :)
Sunir, as far as fitment... This is gonna be a long reply, so get something to snack on. ;)
I verified the fitment of the 13" StopTech kit by using the template they had online (which I printed to scale). There is definitely a fitment issue because of the fact that the spokes curve inward a bit, so the caliper will not clear the spokes. From my measurements, I would need between a 12-15 mm spacer.
Also, a few other issues for me... I have a custom GC coil-over kit (running 6" springs) with kick plates installed. Anyway, right now with full negative camber, I have approximately 15mm of clearance (measured this with calipers) before my tires come in contact with my fenders. In addition to that, I have installed a trick racing stud kit (not cheap) -- the downside being I can only add up to a 8mm spacer max).
Probably asking why don't I change the studs? Well, here it goes...
- I think it'd look silly to have longer studs in front and shorter ones in back. The next step up would be a stud kit which would accomidate up to a 25mm spacer. Once again, no point, since the max I could possibly use will be 15mm. ;)
- My track wheels (18*8.5, SSR Comps) will clear the BBK without any spacers... So if I went with the longer studs, I will have studs sticking out of the edge of the wheel and then some. I know, silly to care about aesthetics, but... ;)
Not sure what offset your wheels are, but that along with the shape/depth of the spokes would determine the clearance of the calipers -- not the overall diameter of the wheel. The overall (inner) diameter of the wheel would only be relevant to the fitment of rotor size -- 13" or 14", etc.
I can't say for sure if fitment of the 14" kit would be an issue (rotor-wise), as I have not researched that. But, given the general width of the calipers on the 13" and 14" kit are pretty much the same, there would still be the same fitment issue with the caliper and the spokes.

sunir 02-11-2004, 08:07 PM wow...that was a pretty long answer yosh!
did you get the stoptech BBK and fit it and see what happens or did you just measure things out with drawings & templates? When we got the 13" BBK on my car there were no fitment issues even on an 8" wheel (17x8") using a 12mm spacer even though I was skeptical at first....the car has TCKR coilovers with -3.5 deg camber in the front. I also have studs...all you need are the longest size studs all the way around the car (mine are TC Kline studs) and the same size wheel all the way around and you should be fine....in fact BBS RK's are common track wheels so their clearances should be good for a BBK application....lots of guys in club racing use 'em. Did you get them from Tirerack and did you get them specifically for an E36 M3 in an 18x8.5" size?
I'd say test your setup with the bbk and then see if you really need to sell them...I'd be interested in what you come up with because I also have a 13" Stoptech BBK up front and I am interested in running your RKs this coming season if possible.

m3yosh 02-11-2004, 08:54 PM Hi Sunir,
As far as the wheel... Yes, I ordered them through TireRack, specifically for a 97 e36 m3.
I appreciate you taking the time with your suggestions... Did you happen to read my post? :awink:
I actually do not have the kit yet (it has been ordered, and should arrive in about a week or thereabouts). I did the "test fit" via the template from StopTech's site.
As far as the studs... I have the TC Kline studs too (Racing Ultra Coated NASCAR Style Stud (up to 8mm spacer)). I don't want to go with longer studs for the reasons I listed in my previous posts.
Not sure what bb kits the other racers are using, but I know StopTech's calipers tend to be on the wider side. So they might be using a different bbk with the BBS RK's without any problem. Or maybe they are running with spacers.
The wheel width is really irrelevant, as you could fit a bbk under a 1" wide wheel as long as the clearances are right. :awink:
As far as waiting to see if the bbk will fit under the BBS RK's... Not an option for me, as this car is also my daily driver. So if the wheels don't fit, I won't have street tires to drive on... This is why I am trusting StopTech's scale drawing template for fitment.
Since your suspension setup allows you to run wider spacers, you will probably be ok...

m3yosh 02-17-2004, 09:00 PM Hi Guys,
Sorry for the delay in pics... I've been waiting for a good day to wash them and take pics. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen soon, so here's a link to them. They are a little dirty in the pics.
