First off i totaled my M3 over the summer and finally found a decent replacement for it. I ended up with 2001 Audi S4 6-speed. My only mod is an APR chip. The M3 is a guy i know who owns a local shop here in charlotte and his mods include basic bolt ons ie. chip, exhaust, underdrive pullys etc. nothing major. Its his daily driver.

So for the race. I rolled up on him in a 45 mph zone rolled down the window and chatted for a minute while drivin. I told him about my recent chip mod and immediately i heard him down shift. We slowed down to about 30mph in 2nd gear. The race only lasted to about 80 mph for me as i ran up on traffic but when i looked back he appeared to be at least 2 to 3 cars behind me. I think i supprised him. I think 3rd gear is my money gear and i barely got to touch it.

I was confident i would beat him easily just based on some of the other races ive had. My friend has a stout low 13 sec Ls1 camero that ive raced on the high way and we're dead nuts from about 60 to 115 mph. Well needless to say i miss my M3 but i think i'll manage with the S4.

Make sure you manage to keep half a dozen spare turbos around! ;)

Sweet, that's definitely what should happen. You should get an exhaust too, there's almost nothing that sounds neater than a chipped S4 with a nice open exhaust.

I love S4s, i was gonna buy one b4 i got my M3 but just didn't have the $$$ :)

I might get one of the new S4s as my next car if i don't get a 996c2, its just a total daily driver thats got balls...and i can go visit my friends at WSU. The M3 would just plow the snow :p

while you are at it, make sure your hoses are clamped tightly or replace them with stronger ones with the up boost from the chip.:mdrbig

add an exhaust and DP and wait to see what you can kill. I would be hesitant racing a stage 2+ s4 in the m5.

get a boost gauge. it's extremely important especially now that you're chipped and might even save you from meeting the turbo lady. nice kill. i've been trying to see how my car does agaist other credible cars, but no one seem to be willing to play. i only had one credible race against an evo which turned out in my favor.

My favorite part about this APR chip is the two programs it came with. I can roll around town in stock mode, then engage the chip as needed.(on the fly as well)
I just bought a set of iForged wheels the other day so im set back for a little while on ehaust, but i think i could swing the guage. As for the hoses i have my mechanic looking into it as we speak about stronger ones and what would be the best route to take. Any ideas?
Thanks Charlie

find out if you have an H or M box ecu in your 2001. If its an Hbox, it means you have the "dreaded" F-hose. get that replaced and also get a better alternative to the stock Throttle body boot (TBB)....such as the APR BiPipe which I have and is great or the AMS Kevlar reinforced TBB, also a good alternative. The Samco one is OKAY...although I've heard of them tearing as well or slipping off.

i've seen the APR bipipe at APR. It is very well designed.

Whats up Chuck. This is aforementioned friend with stout Camaro here for those who dont know. He lies not. That sumbitch is nasty all of a sudden. I wasnt super impressed with the cars acceleration stock (fast but still could have been faster) and probably had a lot to do with how smooth the thing is. But man that chip worked some sort of magic. I never would have thought a chip would do that much for a car, even a turbo one. I mean you see what ive got done in my sig and he was sure as hell dead nuts with me up to 120 mph. I was trapping 108 BEFORE most of the work ive done on my car. I couldnt see me trapping less than 110 now (will find out for sure in the spring time) and he was right there. Baffles the heck out of me. Anybody on here know what his ride should be doing in the 1/4 mi. (specifically trap speeds)? I would be very interested in any sort of qualified answer. Peace.

APR chipped S4 driven well should be able to run mid-low 13s at around 103 or so.... You can get a really good idea of S4 times at

www.s4biturbo.com

usually GIAC and AMS chipped cars run faster times. Again, it depends on the track...driver...car...yada yada. The S4 is pretty strong on the highway thanks to GREAT gearing.....every gear just keeps pulling and pulling. On Race gas and with some exhaust work the same S4 should see around 107-108mph. Remember its a heavy car and although it does have AWD its fighting a ton of inertia off the line....once its moving..its Moving.

I was being sarcastic about the S4 'decent' replacement. I didnt mean to come off as a jack ass but i see how you could take it that way. When i lost my M3 which i loved to no end i decided that i needed a 4 door and this S4 just came around at the right time for the right price and i jumped on it. But believe me, i will own another M3 in the future but i just couldn't afford an e46 at this time. Till then i'll be happy as hell kicking the crap out of LS1s in my grocery getter. Theres nothing like seeing the look on those American muscle guys faces after getting walked by a 4 door import.

Just curious...

See thats what i figured. But my car was trapping 108 stock and that was a gear and about 25 hp and 15 lb of tq ago. Something dont add up. I must have been off my game or the stars werent in proper alignment or something that night because theres no way in hell a heavier car that "should" trap 103 would even be close at the end of a highway pull with my car. Just dont add up. I raced an AC Shnitzer M5 a few months ago (again less mods and power than i have now) and held dead nuts until i had to shift to 5th, then it was pretty much over. Anywho i guess it dont really matter im just glad Charlie's problem is wondering why its so fast and not why its so slow.

I test drove a 2004 S4 this past weekend and ... liked it. I would recommend a test drive to the people on this board.

nice kill man, my buddy's '01 is pretty fast too, but he's not chipped, he's stock, and we're pretty even.. Just let me get 'chipped' and I'll race ya ;) Love the Audi! I want an S4 and an M3, so that's a great race right there!

i test drove the new s-4 & an rs-6. my cousin works for the audi collection dealership in coral gables. i went to go look at the s-4 and it was a very nice car, my cousin was trying to convince me to get rid of the m3. he did convince me when we took the rs-6 out for a run. i was like m what? s-4 who? holy shite thats a fast car but i dont have the $86000 they want for it so ill stay with the m.:)

What up Dave. Been a while. I have semi-regular net access now so i can post some. The Z is getting faster, that gear made a world of diffrence in around town type driving. Up'ed the fun factor by at least 2. Not to mention the bump in hp.

To whoever it was talking about the RS6, i got to tangle with one of those the other day on the highway. Jesus H. that car is strait N-sane! The roll on is seriously almost unstoppable from 100 mph on up. We never really lined up for a race (he wasnt down for that) but once i tucked in behind we played Autobahn for about 15 miles of interestate, never dipping out of the 90 mph range and topping out at 140 (me) and probably at least 165-170 (him). We came around a bend and it was like the angels were signing on high, no cars in sight for at least a mile ahead of us. I had about 5 cars on him at this point, dropped it into 5th at about 110 and rolled it on. From the time it took me to get from 110 to 140, he had at least 5 cars on me! And mind you im sitting on 330 rwhp and 345 lb of tq. That was just mind blowing to me. And the brakes on this thing were like too big to be beliveable. I was impressed to say the least. The guy was really cool too, we gave each other a thumbs up and a honk of the horn upon parting.

Gimme some new tires and half way decent track prep and i dont see how i could not be in the 12s now. 12.90's maybe but 12's none the less. But sit back and hang on, time it gets warm this year i'll be gunning for 11's, not 12's. Super nasty cam, headers and few more bolt ons coming soon.

just make sure you give that rear diff some love before going too big on the power, and too sticky on the tires.... :D

I didi the gears but i made my mind up im not putting any more money into this crappy 10 bolt. Im gonna keep it easy till i know i can swing a 12 bolt. We'll see then.
