Last night, I raced my friend, CrayzeeM3's 98 M3/4. The road is a secluded area with no cars and the track is about a little over 1/4 mile. Here are the car specs:

98 M3/4
~50k miles, stock suspension with X-Brace, 225/40/18 tires all around, UUC TME, UUC Evo2 SSK, LTW flywheel w/M5 clutch, 3.38 auto LSD, Dinan Carbon Fiber CAI, AC Schnitzer exhaust.

95 M3
~100k miles, Bilstein/Eibach, X-Brace, UUC TME, 235/40/17 tires all around, 3.15 LSD, Euro HFM, URI Crank Pulley

1st Run:
We started from a stop. I launched at 3k and he launched at 2k RPM. Instantly, I pulled about half a car due to his generic Visa tires peeling out. By the end of the run, I had him by 1 car.

2nd Run:
Started from a 10mph roll. We were neck to neck with neither one of us pulling on the other. I started to creep past him at beginning of 4th gear and eventually past him.

I was surprised that my car can actually keep up with his LTW flywheel/M5 clutch combo. I am happy that URI Crank Pulley actually works! :D

I will race him again when he put on his SO3s.

Stay tuned... :redspot

P.S. Please guys, spare me the lecture on how street racing is bad, endangers lives, etc. We've all done it at least once in our lifetime. :)

Nice to see the 95's showing them how it's done:buttrock

His 18's didn't help.

Wouldn't your gearing give you an advantage in a drag race? Or him, I always forget if higher or lower gearing is better for acceleration.
I should be ashamed that I don't know that by now.

Higher number dif is generally better for acceleration.

As Dave mentioned,

Higher ratio(for instance, 3.91:1) means shorter gearing=faster acceleration=power available sooner=(if FI) boost is available quicker.

But as with most drastic changes, shorter gearing has its tradeoffs. For example, someone who can't drive for his life, shouldn't get a ridiculous short rear end for his driving. There's only so much mods/upgrades can do relative to how well you can drive...

Nice ;)

How bad are his tires? :az:

Pretty bad, according to him. He took his car to the Malibu meet run last weekend and we were going at a moderate speed in the canyons. His tires were squeaking at turns and I thought something was wrong with my car. :)

Oh yeah, his car is not sharked either, so maybe that made a difference as well.

Sup Cham...

I thought the Malibu meet was this month's meeting in Feb? Sorry, I don't keep track dates too well :D

Yeah I got the crank pulley from URI directly for $259.10 shipped during their January 10% Off sale. I got it installed at my friend's shop cuz I didnt feel like getting dirty. :)

So...u got the HP Evos?

nice run! glad to hear the '95 could still hold its own against the newer models.

Nice kill!

Definitely the URI crank pulley that put you over the top. Although a 3.38 diff with a 6500 RPM rev limiter has him shifting WAY before you, so depending on the speed you race to, you could have the advantage if he's into 4th by the end.
