View Full Version : 325es Vs. Newer Mustang GT
ekdemos 02-03-2004, 09:14 AM I was crusing home the home depot and I come to a light with cars in front of me. Up next to me comes a newer mustang GT that was really loud. He started reving the engine and when the light turned green I wnet as normal and he waited so he could launch his car all to hit the brakes again. At first i though I would get killed if I messed with the big V8. Then that Usher song from my need for speed underground came on. I was in 2nd gear and he was sitting next to me. I hit it and pulled on him by 1 car at the end of third! I love my little ES. I am sure that once I hit fourth he would have passed me for the car only tops out at like 111mph with the 4.10 rear. It was fun with that song playing.
FORD: at least they circled the problem.
MGregski 02-03-2004, 09:19 AM Nice kill, you ever run the car at the track? I didn't think i'd take a GT, especially the new body style.
Huh... You beat a late-model GT with a 325 es? What's in it? Because I so completely raped a 1990 325is once with my puny 2.8, and there's no way I'd kill a GT. Something doesn't add up here...
ekdemos 02-03-2004, 12:39 PM Don't know but I pulled on him through third. Maybe he had a shotty clutch. "Dosen't matter if it is a kid or a solider I think a kill is a kill is a kill."
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 12:40 PM WannaM are you saying you dont think you can, or you didnt think you could until you actually race one. Cause i can pretty much guarentee an e36 M3 would totally hand it to a mustang gt
NickM3 02-03-2004, 01:47 PM I sincerely doubt that an E36 can "totally hand it" to a mustang GT. My friend ran a 13.9 in his stock GT.
That means its definately a drivers race.
M Roady 02-03-2004, 01:53 PM ...yada, yada...twisties though.:awink:
Edit: That smilie is having a seizure!
I killed a Z28 in my old 4 cylinder chevy S10 once. Of course this was because the guys in the Z28 were looking over at me and laughing so hard, but as you say....a kill is a kill.

I hope you're talking about a 94-98 GT, because otherwise, you're SORELY mistaken.
Stock vs. Stock, a new GT versus an E36 M3 is a very tight race. I'm speaking from my own personal experiences, which corroborate what the magazines would seem to indicate, as well as the experiences of numerous other members here.
dan330 02-03-2004, 03:48 PM that does not seam right.
but a kill is a kill.
What was the start and end speed?
slickav 02-03-2004, 04:39 PM He must have been making a sandwich :dunno
Nah, he must have been a bad driver, who cares though :D
Nice Kill :buttrock
SilverStreak 02-03-2004, 05:48 PM a kill is a kill, but ron's right, as well...
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 06:49 PM im not sorely mistaken i have raced a 2001 mustang Gt from a dead stop at a light and i was even with up until about 70 or 75. And guess what......................an e36 m3 can beat me easily. So yea i do still think that given a situation with 2 stock cars and 2 of the same ability drivers on the street. The m3 would win. Im not talkin about 0-60 times and quarter mile times, im talking about a street race from a stop
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 06:52 PM im gonna admit right now before anyone answers back that i have never race an e36 m3 from a stop. So the only possibility i believe of me being wrong here is if an m3 is alot slower than i think they are, because i am sure of myself about the mustang because i cant even count how many i have raced. I do agree that the newer ones are faster though (who wouldnt)
SilverStreak 02-03-2004, 06:52 PM street race from a stop differs from 0-whatever mph, how?
SilverStreak 02-03-2004, 06:54 PM lots of guys with 99+ gt's run high 13's bone stock. that's right in the thick of where most guys with e36 m3's run... hence, why many stated it's a driver's race...
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 06:56 PM im talking about factory 0-60 and quarter mile times that you read in magazine
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 06:58 PM thats like saying that my car is as fast as an m3..................because if i got an awsome start and took out my really heavy subs and didnt have anyone in the car with me then it would be a drivers race. So maybe i am mistaken about the speed of an e36 m3
SilverStreak 02-03-2004, 07:01 PM i'm just quoting what i have seen at the drag strip and in real life... magazine racing is pointless...
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 07:01 PM i would propose a race between me and anyone in here with an m3....................but none of you guys have stock cars
SilverStreak 02-03-2004, 07:03 PM go run your car at the strip, that will tell you a lot about what your car runs as compared to others....
mizunderstoodvw 02-03-2004, 07:06 PM i gotta say i got lot more respect for the bwms in question then the gt
gts are slow...a v6 in a mustang is a shame
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 07:07 PM well i cant say anything back to that because i have never driven it at a strip..................................haha congratulations i give up
SilverStreak 02-03-2004, 07:09 PM no, no, no, you miss the point. you should go run yours at the strip for fun, man, it's a blast, you'll enjoy yourself. take some buddies, make a night of it, get some practice in, improve your launch technique for the street, as well, if you're a car guy, you'll love it, etc...
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 07:09 PM mizunderstoodvw can back me up here, he eats gts for breakfeast in his 1.8t golf.
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 07:13 PM point taken...............i am a car guy..................need to get to the strip
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 07:14 PM also if anyone in here is looking for a friendly race and lives near the capital in pennsylvania let me know.
Inspar8r 02-03-2004, 07:30 PM 02 GT vs. 97 M3, stock:
M3. How do i know, i raced them. My bro and i raced the two side by side. Guess waht? M3 won.
So, we switched cars to see if the driver was the reason. M3 won.
Not to mention, i was driving my stepdads 6spd WS6, and caught an M3 on the highway, and decided to have some fun.
I dropped gears since i see him take off, and i ended up owning him, but i had a HELL OF A TIME pulling away from him with a start at 75mph.
However, with our vette, a downshift at 80 into third slams the LS1 right into it's powerband. The way the vette takes off from 80 is like the way most cars WISH they could take off from a standstill.
***edit: we have a problem. The GT was a drop top, but the race was nota close one, and we ran it to 120. he didn't even get a jump on me, nor did i on him when we switched. It started off with a 1/2 car on the stang, and just got longer from there...
dinan535i 02-03-2004, 07:44 PM nice race.....................haha ws6's are beasts
KarlB 02-03-2004, 10:48 PM I keep telling people that stock Mustang Gts arent all that--- but alot of people here just wont accept it!! I smoked several Gts with a 00 Z3 Coupe in stop light to stop light runs, get a good launch in a Z Coupe and 1st gear pulls about a 1/4 car length slam 2nd and jump to a half about a car lenght at the end of second. This is about how it went 5-6 times with my wife in the car with me.
mizunderstoodvw 02-03-2004, 11:01 PM same thing here, a lot of people do think but never properly test their theory, i do have to say that the last time I raced a mustang the stang was busted by the cops...
to be honest i havent been able to line it up agains an M3 so that i am somewhat in the dark as to how that is
as dinan535i said, if anybody wants to race round Central PA let us know...
jhinck1414 02-03-2004, 11:56 PM nice kill man
c steve 02-04-2004, 12:16 AM mizunderstoodvw can back me up here, he eats gts for breakfeast in his 1.8t golf.
LOL sure. Seriously, some of the stuff I have read here lately is simply insane. From 323 E46's to 2.8 Coupes and Z3's claiming they beat newer GT's -- to a new 1.8 Golf.
M Roady 02-04-2004, 12:27 AM I beat a Cobra SVT (03) with a golf cart.

i am pushing close to 200 whp...considering that my lil golf comes in @ around 2800lbs and the mustang gt is closer to 3500+ my claim is not insane...
its all physics :evil2
1highbeam 02-04-2004, 01:31 AM you have a 4.1 in an ETA? that's crazy. i can see how that at least helped in killing the mustang.
KarlB 02-04-2004, 08:43 AM well C STeve, I cant help it if you cant accept it, it happened several times, sorry but thats the way it is, I dont know if they were A/T or Manulas, I do know they were Gt's and they picked the fights, I also know one of them was shocked as when I slammed 2nd I glanced over and his jaw was dropped and he was looking down at his guages like he was stunned, I dont know why you find it hard to believe that an in line 6cyl beats a V8 off the line thru second gear, first the 2.8 coupe is easy to get a perfect launch with just a slight tire chirpping and it revs higher thru first than the GT does so while he is shifting your still pulling then I am not sure but I would bet the Z3 coupe has a horter throw to second so you are quicker back on the gas.
SilverStreak 02-04-2004, 09:19 AM i wish i still had my 99 gt so i could show you all what a well driven 99+ gt can do. in bone stock form, it's a 13 second car, z3 2.8's ain't, neither are any 328's without serious mods...
mizunderstoodvw 02-04-2004, 12:34 PM well driven being the key word
Blaizon 02-04-2004, 02:19 PM I really can't see a 323 putting the smack down on a newer gt. I don't know what kinda rwhp they put down but most gt's will put 225-235rwhp, but hp can't make up for a bad driver.
I would've loved to race some of you guys before I did my swap, with basic boltons my lil gt was running 13.8's *chip, pullies, 3.73's, cai* never had a chance to run with the nittos.
Bleh let me stop rambling. Good kill!
mizunderstoodvw 02-04-2004, 02:53 PM how heavy is the 323?

The drag strip is great! It is fun to see the real drag cars race, and even more fun to watch the street cars. You should see some of the things people bring. Oh....you can't buy a drug that will give you as good of a high as actually racing.
It may not be as much fun in some of your slower cars since you'd lose every race. :devillook
SilverStreak 02-04-2004, 05:48 PM my first car ran 17's... it was still fun... :D
M Roady 02-04-2004, 06:04 PM Shhhhh....trying to taunt them into going to the strip by calling their cars slow.
mizunderstoodvw 02-04-2004, 06:17 PM lol...most strips feature cars runnin 12 and 13...doubt that many can hold up to that

Normally that's the slow half of the field on TnT Wednesdays @ E-town, but I'm a member of that range lol. One day I'll be fast!
mizunderstoodvw 02-05-2004, 02:15 PM same here....thats why i guess i prefer the streets, u can get all the wankstas
