Hi,

Well I got over my difficulty going in gear 1st and 2nd gear now I'm discovering my M3 drivetrain makes noise when I switch gear while I have my foot on the clutch.

This is most evident when the car rolls by itself at low speed and while I have my foot on clutch I move the gears from 1.2.3.4 and back.

I ve read about a clunk sound when you go in 2nd gear but the tread didnt mention where it came from. I suppose the were talking about a clunk in the handle of the gear handle.. I have that to. My clunk sound comes from the back seat.. and I suppose its form the drivetrain.

Please dont tell me its normal... Doesnt sound like normal for an refined BMW.

Thanks,

Dave :eyes1 :atom

Me too, well for 1st to 2nd. my dad didnt believe me so thought i was just crazy, guess im not. Do any of you find the 1st to 2nd shift difficult? if i pull straight down i gett a little fight from the gate going to reverse, i just let it guide itself like i should but if u guys pulll straight down from 1st to 2nd does it hang up a little bit?

Yup I notice that difficulty going in from 1 to 2.

I m thinking from this that having a not too smooth transmission is quite a normal thing.. knowing that theres 333 HP hooked to it. I m sure porsche or ferrari transmission is no better than the M3.
Just that the people with these 150-300k cars know and expect these car to behave like that... hence accept it and master to manage with it.

I notice something funny also today. when I high rev to 5000 rpm and switch with good timing of clutch and throttle I get smoother switch from1 to 2.

I m getting a grind feeling from 2 into 3. With the high re again and right timing again I get less of the grinding.

Quite a good reason to drive faster.
