I'm a 95 M3. Pretty much stock looking from all angles except from the front where the intercooler can be seen. I've had DOHC VANOS stickers on the side rear panels for the longest time.
So I'm heading home driving on 19th Avenue. I stop at 19th and Sloat, my favorite spot. I almost always stop here even before the light turns red because of the red-light camera on that corner. Next to me stops a Black 4 door M3. The guy just pulled to a stop after I was already stopped there. He only got a good view of my rear and side. He rolls down the windows. He said, "Hey, what's with the stickers? Do they give you 50 horsepower?" I'm totally puzzled because this guy probably had no idea that I was a LOT stronger than him. I smile and tell him, "Yeah, they really give me actually close to 115 horsepower over stock." He says, "Oh yeah?" Then I rev my engine. He knows what's up.
Light turns green, he chirps his tires with a very very nice launch which takes my car by about 2 carlengths. I granny shift it into first and just start pulling. I caught up to him by the end of first gear. In second gear, we were headed uphill. I past him sometime early in 2nd gear. Two long uphill intersections later, I was ahead by about 3/4 block. I have to admit that FI is very forgiving.
I wonder if he heard my bypass valve open when I past him? I bet my DOHC VANOS sticker stared him down as I was passing him going uphill. If this is the M3 that was there with me, it was all for fun. We're all family here, just wanted to show off once in a while.
