View Full Version : Friend Lookin to Buy e46 M3.......
sl0moti0n 01-27-2004, 09:39 AM Hey guys, I post over in the 5er section but hopefully you guys can help me out. My buddy is looking to purchase an e46 M3 (prob '01), what should he look for? He would like to have silver w/ red or black interior. Any help will be appreciated and if you know of any for sale post them up.
I will have him join the site and forward him a link to this thread.
Thanks playas,
Jim

VoltesV 01-27-2004, 02:17 PM "What should he look for?" Can you be a bit more specific?
Kevlar 01-27-2004, 02:21 PM Sorry... I've been busy over in other forums putting out fires and such.
Your question really is opened ended. The information has been covered a bunch of times, but I'll let you know a few things.
Production started in MY01.
Avoid cars produced between 10/2001 to 02/2002 as they were produced w/ incorrect tolerances for the engine.
All cars MY01 to MY03 come with a 6yr/100k engine warranty.
Cars prior to MY03 come with a 3yr/36k scheduled maintanence contract and with a 5yr/60k warranty. Cars after MY03 come with a 4yr/50k miel scheduled maintanence contract, same warranty.
Cars produced after 02/2002 come standard with a front strut bar. 19" OEM wheels became optional starting 02/2002 I believe as well.
SMG became an option starting MY03.
Subtle changes were integrated 02/2003 as well, which include LED taillights, crystal foglights and a lengthed trunk handle.
There were also underskin upgrades starting 02/2002 as well which included carbon fiber/kevlar composites for front/rear bumpers.
MY03 brought an indash CD when you purchased a NAV system. The NAV system was also DVD based instead of CD based.
19" OEM wheel cars do not come with a lug wrench.
BiXenon became optional on cars produced 02/2002.
That's all I remember.
VoltesV 01-27-2004, 02:41 PM All from memory, Kev? Impressive!
Couple additions, though. Strut bar became standard in mid 3/02 (my 3/02 build was one of the last w/o it--crap!). In addition to no lug wrench, also no jack or fancy wheel hanger on my car with 18s.
Also, oil cap changed from a cool ///M one to a BMW one, but I don't know the date for that switch.
sl0moti0n 01-27-2004, 06:12 PM Thanks guys! Sorry my question was so broad but I really don't know anything about m3s (so I'm not sure what specific questions to ask) , neither is he. I would do a searcg but again, the info is for my buddy. I'm trying to get him to join here prior to his purchase and hopefully this thread will show him how helpful a forum can be when purchasing a new car.
Once he joins I will show him how to use the search button.
Thanks,
Jim
daihard 01-28-2004, 04:11 AM Kevlar:
Is the warranty 5-year/60K or 4-year/50K? IIRC, my 2004 M3 came with the maintenance program and warranty both for 4-year/50K. I could be wrong, though.
desi_m3 01-28-2004, 10:44 PM Warranty is 100,000miles/6 yr i believe.

Only for the engine and things lubricated by oil.

This does not apply to the 2004 M3.

Right...
However, if you want an interesting tidbit of information, I spoke to a BMW representative via their customer service line a while back when the '04s came out and they said the '04s would be covered by the same 6yr/100k warranty that came on '01 to '03 cars ... but refused to fax me any information of the sort.
I guess they were not sure... hence no documentation. Doesn't really matter tho, the way I'm burning through miles... the extended warranty will be up in a year.

ReNNeN.CaRL 01-30-2004, 03:26 AM the salesman that sold me the car said it was covered to 100k miles. i found out it wasnt at my 1200 mile service. oh well....its not like that would have swayed my decision on the car anyway. :D
