I was going back to work with my friend after lunch and we where sitting waiting to get green light when I see this Mercedes Benz next to me. At that time I did not even thought about racing so after the light changed to green I launch really slow, this guy all of the sudden punch it and start to pass me so I punch it and after 2gear I had like 2 cls on him, we got to next light and he rolled down the window and tells me " you are lucky I'm not driving my Ferrari...I'd eat you for breackfast with it" so I look my friend like WTF and I answer him " whenever that happen let me know so I really race you.........not in reverse like this one"
That was so funny

What a dork... If that guy is so into performance that he would actually own a Ferarri, he probably wouldn't have a 430 Benz as his daily driver...

Well the CLK 430 would put up the best fight, even though it's not enough for an M, a 328 maybe.

Frank, don't mind some of the comments. My friend's father has an older 911 turbo, just bought a 04 s500, and also has a........o oh 98 Maxima:)

Personally, I think that Mercedes' build quality, especially in cars with lower displacement engines, isn't that great. They make beautiful cars, but they're not that oriented towards performance (until the CL65 hits the streets). If that guy was driving an AMG model, I wouldn't even have posted... but even then, how come you can't buy most (any?) AMGs with a standard transmission???? Seems like MB is more focused on luxury than performance.

you must mean different Classes!? different displacement doesn't make the car's quality different. It's like saying a 528i's quality sucks compare to the 540i and that's a :nono not true.

No, I mean different displacement... like the 4.3L and down. I don't like the way they drive, idle, sound... I don't like how the trannys lag, and I'm not impressed with the performance. Next time you shift your MB into drive make sure you give it that sec to catch up with you... If you own a Benz you know what I'm talking about.

just letting you know that almost all auto have lags when it shifts into gear from PRN and that includes my old 00 328Ci and my bro's 97 528i.

anywayz, what does engine displacement has to do with QUALITY? they all are the same. I would agree w/ you if you were talking about lack of performance from the 4.3L V8 in cars like the S430 which is a heavy car indeed. Also regular MBs do have throttle lag to give the driver more smooth control at maintaining speed. AMGs however does not have lags like the regular MBs.

if you don't like the 4.3L V8 I don't see how a 5.0L V8 from the E500, S500, and CLK500 etc would work any different for you. They all idle the same, and sounds the same other than maybe the power is different from the 4.3L. Flawed logic, I'd say.:az:

edit: forgot to answer one of your earlier question. The AMGs doesn't have manual because "survey says" 90% of the AMG owner prefer auto and only 10% don't mind having manual.

Different displacement engines are not the SAME. There is a difference in quality... if you'll notice in one of my first posts here I stated that if it were an AMG, I wouldn't even say anything... I'm sure your C32 is a great car. The shift lag in MB's has always been horrible.... worse than other cars... and the delayed acceleration is just annoying... Once again, they're beautiful cars, some of the most beautiful on the road. I think the CL is a work of art... But, I don't feel like the complete package is there... And it'd be nice if they gave the consumer the choice between auto and manual... This is my last post about this, I don't want it to get ugly... To each his own, I choose BM, and you choose MB.

I agree with Maxpower, I've driven alot of Benz's and BMW's, and I have never once felt the lag you get from a Benz's when going from a start or letting off the gas, then pressing it again in a bmw, not even in my old 2002. I just drove a 1996 SL 320 down to FLA, and that lag in the gas pedal pissed me off the whole way down there. I mean you let go of the gas and it immediatly decresed in speed (almost like you were breaking or downshifted). The new benz's aren't so bad, and in the AMG's you don't notice it at all (because as I've stated before, the internal build quality on the amg's are just better sorted) So you guys made the right choice when you went for an AMG and not just the usual run of the mill benz

agree with the throttle lag. anyways, Just want to know what do you think about the BMW's 3.5L V8 vs the 4.4 V8? would they have different built quality because their displacement's different? and I'm still waiting as in WHY would they be different? you haven't explain it. thanks
