i was at sheetz when some kid i know pulls in driving his dads z3, he knows i am always looking for a street race (even though my car isnt exactly fast). He asked me to go from a 20 mph roll with him. I accepted and we went from about 25. He gunned it first and got a half a car length ahead real quick. That was the most he was gonna pull as i quickly started reeling him in. I shutdown around 95-100 and was about 2 car lengths ahead. I was wondeirng how this worked out. I have nothing done to my car except dinan chip and i had a friend and my 2 10 inch subwoofers weighing me down. He was by himself and had the jump on me too. Are the 2.8 z3's that bad stock????

My track record isn't exactly stellar... I attributed this to the driver (me), but for some reason, the Z3 2.8 isn't that fast, especially later models (heavier), although, ironically, I once trest drove an M Roadster and came away unimpressed, engine-wise.

I think the gearing is to blame. Was the Z3 a manual? You also had the torque advantage

the 2.8's are down about 30 or so hp from the 3.0's that replaced them in the line up. by the way, 2000 was the last year for the 2.8's in the z3...
