Hi am really torn on which shifter to buy. Had my mind set on the RE octane at first but have read threads saying that after 10k the RE doesnt shift as smooth because the plastic ball wears out. Looking for the shifter that is smoother and easier to shift than precision. Also anyone know which one will have a shorter throw? So im looking for anyone in the greater LA area preferably close to arcadia or USC that has the UUC EVo3 or Rogue octane that i can try out. Thanks
Denny

damn! I was about to post something exactly like this! I'm bumping this thread in hopes of tagging along also so i can try out both shifters. Actually I already tried the EVO3, its pretty nice, now i just need the rogue octane to compare. The older the Rogue, the better, so i can get a feel for how long it'll hold up. thanks.

So u liked the evo3 you shifted? how old was it. was it broken in already? Cheapest i found for the UUC was $300 from someone in glendale.

I don't think it's broken in yet, It was alright, the guy who has it is on this messageboard. Look for hamanncheese. I think it should be about 200 for my car (94 325is). The thing about the EVO3 is that it requires alot of effort to get into gear. Other than that it's a big improvement over stock. I hope to test out the Rogue kit, because Rogue is having a KILLER sale right now... Buy a Rogue SSK and get free tranny mounts!

Well doesnt look like this is going to happen. Most californians dont have time in their busy schedule to help someone out.

go with the evo3.. and if ur looking for a great guy and dealer to buy from, go to www.mperformance.com and ask for jon, heres a post showing you what kind of service you should expect:

the re shifter will not last as long and isn't engineered nearly as well as the evo3, no one wants to pay 300 for a shifter that will just become sloppy again overtime, even if tranny mounts are included i think the choice is clear..

Yea iv talked to john about the evo3 kit already. He said he would even deliver it. Some people say the RE kit shifts alot better, some say the get the EVO3. That is why I want to shift both kits and decide for myself.

i had an evo 2 now i have the octane

i havent tried the evo3 yet

i doubt they fall apart
mine wsr had threadlock on it from what i can tell
and the plastic ball shouldn't wear like that

bmw uses the same material in their oem shifters

Yea iv heard from lots of people that the RE shifts smoother. There was a thread about someones ball falling apart but thats just one case. My friend is buying the Evo3 from john today. Ill probably decide after i try shifting his kit.

definately wait to shift the EVO III kit, very smooth and precise, wont wear overtime either because of the metal components and bearings instead of a shifter made up of plastic parts

Estoril4dr: i heard the RE had a smoother shift than the UUC kit, but after shifting a rogue unit i felt the UUC kit was much more precise and smooth...

kosta: that girl is fine under your name... and sick car...

Estoril4dr,

i'm the dude that has the evoIII.

my thoughts about the UUC evoIII:

pros: shift reduction is awesome
precise gear changes (slick-slick)
shift effort is only 10% greater than stock
5th gear is a lot closer now

cons: slightly louder cabin noise from tranny (most likely due to the nearly 100% use of metal parts in the shifter design) in 1st and 2nd gears

engaging first gear requires more effort (probably haven't broken it in yet)

enough talk...you really have to experience it to see if you like it. You are more than welcome to come by and try it out. pm me.

Yep, plastic is just fine...

... fine for a disposable $27 part.

Got the evoIII installed this tuesday by ps racing in glendale. The shifting is a little notchier than i expected. Hopefully this will smooth out ALOT after i break it in. Visually, the UUC kit look very very high quality! Ill have to wait till after it breaks in before I can recommend it to my friends or not. Btw. I just changed my tranny fluid to redline d4 atf about 3k miles ago. The fluid seems to work well at first but now its not as smooth anymore. Anyone else experience this? I'v heard people saying that they liked the Mobil1 better for the tranny.
