I'm getting an oil extractor and I'd like to use it with my BMW with synthetic and my wife's Toyota with regular oil. Having never used an extractor before, are there any issues I need to be aware of regarding contamination between the two different lube types?
I'll be doing the Toyota first so I'm actually more concerned about any possible mixing of regular 10w30 with the synthetic in my car.
Thanks in advance...

You shouldn't have a problem. Just wipe down the extraction tube first.

We have not heard anything bad at this time. Some people do think that it does not clean out everything. So you may want to keep that in mind.
Good luck
In previous "oil extractor" threads, it supposedly won't be able to get all the oil from the bottom of the pan (where most of the dirt is?); not sure if this is true but something to consider and look further into when you do the Toyota first.......keep us all updated on results.....good luck:)

That is one theory. The other is that when you warm the engine that the particles will become suspended in the oil. Since they are suspended they will be removed with the extrator. Extractors have been used for years on boats without a problem.
Would you rather be stranded on a boat with engine trouble or a car? I have been using 10+ years with no problems.

Yeah, they have been used on boats for years, but most of the time you have no choice. Also the service interval is less for boats, and not too many people putting 100k on their boats. And Boats are a constant maintenance hassle.

Now I'm waiting on a filter wrench for the Toyota. The filter is so small that all the wrenches at Pep Boys, Autozone, etc are too big to grab it. Dealer is out too so I'm ordering it online. Not as tiny as my MR2 though. They could take a lesson from BMW - I am so going to enjoy oil changes on that car!
