View Full Version : Put deposit on 14k mi Anrthracite/Black 01 Spt today :o)
stever 01-20-2004, 01:31 AM No, I didn't get the Imola Red car. Sorry. Wife said NO at the last moment. LONG story. That was Sunday night...
LATE Sunday night I see this Anthracite 01 Sport w/ a ridiculous 14k mi for sale. Called the guy this morning. We couldn't meet terms on price. Called again. Called Bill (Wiseguy). Decided I needed to meet guy's price. Drove 5.5 hours to look at car. Handed over deposit. Got signed contract to come back in the next couple days probably tomorrow, by air this time!) with certified check. Nice guy. Wife's car. Nice family. Low as $hit miles. Never even considered paying more money for a low mile car, until it hit me this morning when I saw these pics...

I just wanted the car. Wife agreed. She said - I no like red, keemosabe. I like grey. You buy grey.
I bought grey. I fly back tomorrow or Wednesday to pay and drive home. Wild day. 11 hours RT from DC. I'm going to miss my 95 - it was a great car. Driving the sport today, though - WOW. I thought mine was nice... This car is nicer still!
Thanks to all of you. Really. This is a great community. Especially Wiseguy. I called this guy wayyy too much, but he was always there to help a "stranger". And I ended up not even buying a car from him. He suggested I get this car - fast! Cool people here.
Ever so grateful,
Steve

I was never that into this color before, as I just wanted Imola Red to stand out. Now, I'm pretty much in love with this boring, drab, "hide amongst the pack", color. Or, as she calls it instead - "a very manly color". That's what got me. A guy's ego just creams when his woman says she likes something of his because it's manliness. There's something to be said for the wolf in sheep's clothing. The red car was more like a sore thumb in the left speeding lane looking for the cops to pull me over, so says my wife. I love her. She's the best.
Steve:alright
tony(topaz,SMG) 01-20-2004, 01:40 AM Looks great! Good as new. Actually Anthracite and Titanium were my two other choices, but I never found an Anthracite with low miles and black leather. Plus, the wife wanted the "red one", he,he. Saw plenty of Titaniums and decided I didn't need to own another one. Good luck and hopefully everything will turn out well in the end.
stever 01-20-2004, 01:44 AM Thanks Tony - besides, I could never have found as nice an Imola Red car as you have! Your pics were the ones I'd look at when I was blue - to cheer me up!
Cheers,
Steve
JLe38 01-20-2004, 03:16 AM Congrats Steve, Anthracite was our top choice along with the Titanium. Couldn't find a low milage '01 Anthracite Sport, so went with the Titanium.

allthewayfive 01-20-2004, 03:29 AM Very nice. Looks just like mine except I got the light gray leather. It's just a baby! Only 13K miles? You're going to love it.
99bmw740il 01-20-2004, 05:13 AM anthracite is the pimp color- welcome... half my car is getting repainted so itll look as good as yours ;)
stever 01-20-2004, 08:17 AM Couldn't sleep much last night... I wonder why. Better get to the gym now to work out so my body will survive the day (to the bank for $$$, rushing rushing rushing to get out of work fast and get to airport, pulling and OJ Simpson rushing to plane, meet up with owner at JFK, then drive him back to his house, picking up the car (must figure out a nickname for it) , nervous for some reason!, drive that crappy, pothole ridden Belt Pky for it's 10 miles to the Verezano bridge (my poor new M// Wheels), dodge huge potholes on bridge, try to figure out Nav System while driving and avoiding an accident! (never had Nav) along the way, dodge the cops as I'll have my old plates on his/my new car (illegal?), hope I don't get pulled over (though a 95 740i does look sort of like an 01!), get home alive... on very little sleep!
I'm a wreck.... I'll be back to tell all!
Steve
F Johnny Klyde 01-20-2004, 09:18 AM you finally did it!
yeeeeeeeah!
MDabney 01-20-2004, 10:13 AM That is real nice Steve... especially that kick azz color. (no bias there) :devillook
Good luck with the car man... *AND* getting those planned mods "approved" by the little woman. {put some pants on man} :D j/k

rango44 01-20-2004, 12:10 PM Exceptional,
Glad you were able to resolve the Imola Red and the want of a new E38 to such a successful conclusion. Hope it turns out to be everything you wanted and more.
Randy
stever 01-20-2004, 02:02 PM Thanks again! Just ran home to get some stuff. Going to hustle it on down to National Airport for a hopefully uneventful flight to JFK. Feel like I'm going on a drug deal! (I don't do drugs!) I have so much adrenaline. This car search/purchase is close to being over now.
Then what!!! Kick butt exhaust? Peformance chip? There's not too much in the way of slippery slope, compared to the 911 mods that are possible - that's another story altogether.
Steve
Tranceshark 01-20-2004, 04:16 PM REAL NICE MAN!!!!

ericw 01-20-2004, 04:23 PM Anthracite BORING??????:complain
Seroiusly, good luck with the car I bought my 01 Anthracite in April 2002 with 5K on it I paid over 50. The only things I've done are the wood and leather shift knob, the pipes and the nav upgrade to 21.1
AMP01 01-20-2004, 05:27 PM stever,
C O N G R A T S - S W E E T ! ! ! :buttrock
That is one fine looking 7! When I was looking for my 740i Sport, I came accross a couple of Anthracite Sports but none with 14k miles, or in your case less than 14K miles! I also like the black intrerior. Black is my favorite interior for a sporting car for sure.
When you get your new 7 home, check out Meguiar's new NXT tech wax. I have used it on my 7 and our new X5 - very easy to use.
Keep us informed on the mods that you are planning to do!
Cheers,
AMP01
Reed Hunt 01-20-2004, 05:32 PM Great color, great car.
Ask Flying High (Jack) about the slippery slope of mods, he's currently right in the middle of it!!! (g)
Wiseguy ON 01-20-2004, 11:59 PM Steve,
I expect a call on your progress!
Glad you got the car man.. it was a good deal. Cars with miles THAT low that are THAT nice are rare indeed.
:)
shled 01-21-2004, 12:41 AM You remind me of me when I flew to FL to purchase mine. I was very pumped and was not disappointed when I got there and saw it in person for the first time. I sincerely hope you have the same experience.
Nice car, great color & va-va-vanona over black looks very good.
stever 01-21-2004, 01:25 AM Thanks Shled. The story is now posted on the other post!
Cheers,
Steve
