:nono are z4's not allowed?

It seems the bulk of the people posting are ///M owners. The coupe guys put out a high volume by themselves. No ///M or Coupes for the Z4. Z4 owner's probably have less to talk about. They are slaves to the warranty and aren't mod happy yet and if something breaks on their cars, they can just take it back and get it fixed under warranty w/o having to search and post.

on top of that, some of our members are slighty less than "friendly" towards them...

Maybe they should have a different forum. Coming here they don't find much relevent to their cars.

As someone stated earlier, looks like the Z4'ers are now at other forums. I've heard some of them cite the hostility towards Z4's which drove them out of this forum.

To be honest, I find more interesting Z topics over on the other forum where a pretty famous BMW modder posts pretty frequently. (He runs an unofficial BMW site from what I understand.) ;) Most of that is because a lot of members in this forum seem to be M Coupe owners.

In fact, the other day I was able to find a solution to a problem we're experiencing with the Z on that other forum after searching here first, then at the other place.

Maybe we can cut back on the negative Z4 comments a little, seeing as everybody already knows who are vehemently against its looks and there's no point in beating a dead horse "deader".

We should welcome the newbie Z4 owners and try to be helpful, instead of quipping back with anti-Z4 sentiments. To the rest of us, it's half joking, but to the newbie, he or she just got insulted.

Anyway, sorry to ramble, but this is an observation I've made since I've started browsing this forum...

I hope I can contribute more as I get to work on the Z3 at home more and more (I'm finding that it's very similar to working on my 328 which is great!).

Are you sure about getting the SMG? It's no where near the smoothness (if you can call it that) of the SMG on the E46 M3. It doesn't even have the 12 different modes of SMG/Automatic that make the M3 customized to the owner's liking.

I had the pleasure of driving an SMG equipped Z4 at O'Fest (that's "Oktoberfest" for those Canadians and Philly people who have their minds in the gutter all the time) :D.

Anyway, it felt very good and the rev-matching during down-shifting was *very* cool. I expected the "jerkiness" (once again, to those Canadians and Philly people, this is referring to the motion one feels when an SMG equipped car up shifts ;)) so it wasn't a big deal to me.

it might be time for a Z4 forum... it seems as though our reputation preceeds us...

I have always been silent about the debate of Z4...but I was watching car and driver this weekend where they did an update on a blue 3.0. I always liked the Z4 with the exception of it missing the side gill and the side view...but when I received this months issue of the Roundel a guy wrote in and could'nt of said it better about the Z4 and other Bangel designs when he said "Since when has BMW been know as the Ultmate Looking Machine?"...makes a lot of sense to me IMO

Just because they were always known as the ultimate DRIVING machine doesn't mean they used to look like crap.

Yet, they do now.

To be fair- the E28's, Bavaria's and who could forget the Batmobile (3.0CSL of old) were a little funky looking. Maybe we'll think that about Bangle in 15 years. Right now I still don't appreciate his styling cues. It might take 15 years for me to change my mind too.

you know I cant understand why they did not carry over the gills on the z4, I think thats a major downfall in the styling design.

because the z4 ISNT a z3 and BMW wanted to seperate the z4 from the z3. The z3 is retro and the z4 is Flame styling.

I will be switching to the new MB roadster or the Honda NSX replacement if it comes out.
MB's keep getting better and the slk AMG hung with the Mroadster. I cant see MB bowing to the handling crowd. I know for a fact the MB will over power the BMWs and porches. Looks like a F1 car too. Im not at the point in my driving career (:D ) that I can get a nasty looking car for minimal performance increases. That being said, I would go for a MB kompressor that was in the new body style. I want a nice powerful car that looks GREAT, and I can take to a fun track event that I dont need a full roll cage for.
So i will gladly give up some twisties for tht kick in the ass MB power.

whats the point of arguing about something subjective like styling? bmw doesnt care if hugo thinks it ugly. there are plenty of people out there who like it and are willing to pay for it.

i think the z4 2.5's look silly with those tiny wheels but i really do find the 3.0 attractive. would i ever trade my coupe for one? no chance...but i can see why people are buying them.

if anything...argue something measurable...performance for example...and when compared the z4 is a better performing bmw.

I only picked on the styling, which is indeed subjective, and I've always said I bet they drive great.

They are expensive though.

Better suspension and the Z4 is *almost* as stiff as the Coupe.

man, it seems like im the only one on this board who actually likes the look of some of bangle's designs, especially (bring on the flames) the z4... i can see why people dont like it, but i absolutely adore it, and i share no animosity towards Z4 owners... and as far as arguing styling, thats always objective...

for the most part i like his design cues, there are small things that bother me like the exposed exhaust on teh 5er, the strip of lights going across the trunk on the 7, the Z4's steering wheel...

i am admittedly one of those people....i was shocked and disgusted with the first pic i saw of the m coupe (road and track). then i saw it in person...little seed was planted. then i saw it at the la auto show with an s54 and steel grey skin....the seed had become a moster redwood in my brain and i HAD to get one! it is now one of my favorite shapes in the world.

i have my own theories as to why people resist the bangle designs...but this discussion/argument is beaten, shot, re-beaten, and bombed to death.

the thing im saying is that calling a man's car ugly is almost as bad as calling his child ugly. you just don't do it. even if its the ugliest kid you've seen in your life...at least not to his face or on an open forum i guess its just a matter of respect

So, I'm done bashing the Z4, even though for the price of a Z4 3.0 you could get an S54 Coupe with a suspension and lightweight wheels. I'm not gonna go there. ;)

I like the Z4 and if I had the money I drive that too.

You know, the first time I set eyes on an M Coupe I was not a fan either. I couldn't understand why they'd built a car that funky. It took a while to grow on me. I'd still rather drive a roadster (just because I like the top down cruising and the handling is still great), but now I appreciate an M Coupe for what they are. Wicked driving and the best handler BMW has ever built.

jer has a great point, if the z3 owners here have driven off potential new members with the z4, that's not acceptable. jabs and comments and teasing is fine, but if bfc has a rep online to being hostile to new z4 owners, that has to change, and right now, we're better people than that...

Hostility? I've felt nothing but love in the Z4 threads... (coughloveforgoodlookingcarsliketheZ3cough).

That being said, they're more than welcome, as long as they're not dumb. The last thing we need is some more newbies screwing up OT.

one of the compliments bfc gets most of the time is it's friendliness and maturity towards new members... if that goes away, we're in trouble...

I think that's partly the case...

Also, it's a new model, so there's flux as to where they decide to call home. I like several other forums, but I don't hang out at them just cuz it's too hard to be on 4-5 forums, so I kinda just visit 2 forums.

I've long since quit bashing the Z4 in this forum, although in OT or BMW general, I'll bash Bangle in a general sense, but that's just how I feel. Plus, I drive one of the most controversial BMW designs ever, so if someone told me my car was ugly, it really would not bother me in the least. I own and love the car, so hooey.

I've also only bashed the design of the car, and never the car itself. But, if someone just threw down $42k, they don't want to hear it's ugly.

It can't be denied that there was a time when any thread involving the Z4 turned into an "it's ugly" fest.

Also, this forum is more social. Some of the other ones are more consistently technical, although driving away knowledge is never good. Take TeamZ4 for instance. He was not a lot of fun at times, but he knows his stuff.

bashing bangle is one thing, and can be funny, as well as old, but degrading someone over their choice in car, especially a bmw at a bmw oriented enthusiast's site, is just plain wrong, and not friendly.

teamz4 certainly knows his stuff, but i only saw him ever get defensive or abrasive when people attacked him or his car, verbally. i had some nice pm's and good posts with team, it's a shame if he's gone for good- we need a guy with his knowledge here, especially his experience with a new model, etc.

if we ran him off, that's just wrong.

and we have plenty of members here in z3 forum who contribute a lot to the z3 forum and the whole site, but aren't exactly what i would call 'friendly' or 'social' all the time...

Team Z4 is exactly the person I was thinking of too. Smart guy- definetly an enthusiast. I can't think of a lot of other Z4 people, but he sticks in my mind as a guy who has a clue.

Well, TeamZ4 is a bimmerfester now, though I've seen him lurk here occasionally.

Lord knows we have enough parked threads, but maybe a Z4 gallery and registry? It would be kinda sad at first, but it might help over time.

Also, this might be a problem for BF.c in general, although the 3, 5, and 7 forums are split up by Exx model. Bangle is controversy. I won't even tell you what I was thinking when I saw a new Honda Accord yesterday. 2-3 major lines on that car are on the new 5 series. Not that a Honda is bad, just I don't think they are particularly good looking or performance oriented. They are just solid transportation. When I see BMW reviews on TV or in magazines, there is ALWAYS time given to discuss the controversy over the new designs.

I'd love and prefer to have a Z forum for Z3 and Z4 owners, but maybe a Z4 forum would be the only real way to attract and retain Z4 members.

Hell, I think when Ridgeway WON A FREE Z4 in a RAFFLE we were like, "cool, sell it and get a M Roadster!"

oh count, believe me, it's a consideration...

Thanks Dave for stepping in here and reiterating that Z4 folks are welcome here. I ranted on this a while back about how tiresome the Z4 bashing has gotten.

We are Bimmerphiles first, all with different taste. Those certain Z3 vert drivers really should put the clubs down and embrace our differences.

Actually, I discovered Roadfly when I was looking to buy. Got a lot of useful info there. Still look at that regularly, the Z4 board definitely has a lot more activity than here and it is more than windscreens and sales figures (although there is a lot of that :) )

A lot of people have done some interesting things in the audio/video mod areas and it looks like a lot of places are finally starting to come out with performance mods (exhaust, chips, etc) for the Z4 that might be interesting.

This is actually rather embarassing as I am the Director of IT Operations at my company. Course that means my job is mostly moving numbers around budgets and seeing to it that other folks are doing what they're supposed to. Whenever I have users hit me with techie questions I usually say, "I'll have one of my people take care of that for you." :laugh

You have to link the pic, from a free hosting web site. So you add the url in your signature box, with the tags before and after, and you're set.
