View Full Version : Wash Mitts: MF vs. sheepskin JayT 01-07-2004, 11:18 PM What have you guys found to work the best? What do you prefer? And please leave links for either one. Thanks. G. P. Burdell 01-08-2004, 08:26 AM I use a $6 sheepskin mitt from Wal-Mart. The brand name is Eurow. It's very easy to find locally and inexpensive to replace. As far as microfiber mitts go, I have no experience with them, but as long as you keep the mitt (sheepskin or MF) well rinsed while washing your car, you shouldn't have a problem with either type. 325FLY 01-08-2004, 12:10 PM Listed the three that I have in my collection. It depends on my mood on the choice, but all three I love for different reasons. And is there such a thing as having to many toys in your detail box?? http://www.autogeek.net/chenwaspad.html http://www.autogeek.net/2in1washmitt.html http://www.autogeek.net/miwami.html JayT 01-08-2004, 05:02 PM Personally I have found my sheepskin mitts to deterioraite very quickly. I know it's the way I machine wash it, sometimes chunks are missing when I take it out. Jasonb1971 01-08-2004, 06:51 PM Sheepskin mitts will leave lines, commonly called "spiderwebs" on your paint. These are minute scratches that are only visible in direct sunlight and on dark colors. (These lines should not be confused with buffer swirls.) Wash a white or gray car with a sheepskin mitt and you'll never know the difference, but wax up your black M3 then wash it with a sheepskin and you'll be frustrated. At my shop we only use pure cotton mitts for this very reason. The last thing we want is for a customer to complain that their paint looks WORSE after it left our shop for a simple hand wash. Admittedtly(sp?) I've never used a MF wash mitt YET. We do use MF rags daily to remove wax and clean other things but I'm a little reluctant to use them for washing because of their short nap, it makes them grumpy later in the day... seriously though I prefer to wash with something that has a longer "nap" so it doesn't trap the dirt particles against your paint causing scratches. This is why those ultimately super-duper soft diapers aren't good for washing. Sure they're soft but where does the dirt go?
