So I get a call yesterday from my father. He was pulled over by a Tunnel Cop for doing 51mph in a 50.

The cop told him he was impeading traffic. Then told him he was lucky he wasn't going to write him a ticket.

What an ass! I told him that he should have made the cop give him a ticket, and then taken him to court for racial/age profiling (sp?)

Anyway, I thought it was funny that the cop pulled him over for going faster then the speed limit and told him he was going too slow.

That's crap.

On a related note, one of my brother's co-workers got a ticket for 26 in a 25. They work for the same company I do, but on an Army base, so it was an Army cop.

Punishment: not being allowed to park on the base anymore.

WTF is that all about? Seems that these folks (fucks?) in uniform have nothing better to do than to hassle motorists! That's pretty annoying.

Yeah MP's are notorious for the one mile over ticket. Toll cops are dicks...........

But that's the thing, he wasn't giving him a hard time for speeding, he told him he was driving too slow

I hate when people do the speed limit in the passing lane and the middle lane.

When i was in Ohio, they were thinking of passing a law that allows cops to give tickets to motorists if they were holding up traffic. I think that is a good idea.

Nothing worse than a slow driver in those two lanes. It really does mess up trafic in the mornings. Not that I care anymore. My commute is less than a minute from my house. :laugh

I got a ticket for my redlight camera license plate reflector right after I left the toll plaza. Funny thing about it is I was thinking about going through the SpeedPass lane without having a SpeedPass. :D

Fortunately, I have a new line of defense. And no one is the wiser. MUHUHAHAHA:laugh

We all get mad at people doing the speed limit in the left lane, but that's what IS legal.

Silly question, but can MP pull civilians over? Or is it within a restricted area within their base like on 32 near Ft. Meade?

A buddy of mine in college told me that MP got behind him to pull him over and as soon as he stopped and the MP got out, he floored it out of there saying that they have no jurisdiction. :dunno

I saw you on 95 the other day around the tunnel. I was in my beater, so I'm sure you didn't recognize me, but I beeped at you and waved.

as for your story...I'd keep the police officer's name and badge number in my car for the next time I got pulled over and say "this officer told me he would ticket me if I drove under the speed limit."

Actually, that is not true.

The left lane is called the passing lane. It is really only to be used if you are passing someone. If you are doing the speed limit then you should not be in the left lane period.

I RARELY stay in the passing lane while driving even if I am doing 80. I only use it to pass people. As my dad said, even if you are doing 100mph in the fast lane and someone is behind you need to let them pass.

In MD it's the left lane, not the passing lane. They tried to make it a law that you have to let people pass, but they didn't. I understand what you are saying, and do the same thing, but driving up to the speed limit in any lane is what IS legal. Exceeding the speed limit in any lane is illegal. Passing or not, you are not legally allowed to drive over the limit. Even emergency cars can only drive 10mph over.

This only applies in VA. Youre also allowed to flash/honk to pass, but then again, that could be considered "agressive driving"... stupid.

This doesn't really pertain to either side of the discussion but I thought that MD had a flash to pass program or something like that.

i think it should be a law that you can be within +-10 miles of the speed limit without being ticketed

a cop pulled out a 1/4 mile ahead of me with his lights off (saw him easily) and waited on the side of the road till I passed (I saw this allll coming) pulled out, paced me for 5 minutes, then pulled me over for 30 in a 35. I didn't know what the speed limit was (and he was RIGHT on my bumper for 5 minutes!) so.. whatever. Cops suck.

the funny thing is, all my friends in the car were making fun of me for being paranoid about fairfax cops.. they laughed when I said I just saw a cop with his headlights off cut across the road and hide..
