View Full Version : What wheels for a 635?
Franchise 01-05-2004, 05:11 PM Well I have found a 635csi that I may purchase. it looks very nice stock except for the wheels.
what kind of wheels will go with such a classic?
i saw some of the optional BBS on the M6 but I would prefer 18 or 19 inch wheels.
Aftermarket wheels are ok as long as they still fit the cars looks.
anyone know of anything?
will E39 wheels fit?
thanks for the help!
Franchise 01-05-2004, 05:15 PM do they make clears for these cars?
clears and wheels seem like the only exterior mods it would need.....
this is the one i am looking at

jcsomerset 01-05-2004, 05:24 PM I want to say someone makes clears, but can't remember who it is.
Try posting on Roadfly.org about the clears.
You have LOTS of wheel options. 18"s are about the biggest you can go, someone may have put 19"s on here or there, but I think they are too big.
Lots of folksgo for he 17: style 5's from E39's - just get some hubcentric rings and go for it.
Good looking car -
BimmerFreak 01-05-2004, 09:25 PM Congrats on your 6er purchase.
I am also new to the E24 family after a pretty steady history of E30 and E36 ///M3s.
Here is a picture of my E24 with 17X8.5 (235/40/17)
My car is lowered about 1.5 inches, and personally I think this setup looks H O T!!!
I dont know about about 18 or 19s on an older car, but to each his own.
BTW; the offset on my wheels is ET13
One set of wheels that I think look really hot on the E24/28 are the 850ci wheels (17s)
There is a dude on these boards with a really nice red E28 with dark painted 8 series wheels that looks really pimpy...
I will post pics of the car if I can find it.
jhfutch 01-06-2004, 12:00 AM I remember that car when it was on ebay a few weeks ago. Here is what was said about that car on another board.

I have seen several 6ers with 18s, the width is what you have to worry about the most. The main things you should know is the car has a 5x120 bolt pattern and a 20mm offset. The most popular styles seem to be the less open wheels like Rondell #58, Alpinas, BBS Basketweaves. I personally like M5 Throwing Stars.
I have seen clear fronts but not rears. I don't think they would look right on a sixer.
Go to roadfly.com or bigcoupe.com and view the galleries, there are a lot of good looking sixes out there.
Franchise 01-06-2004, 05:43 AM well i havent purchased yet.... but i want to.. what do u guys think? i am not looking into buying then needing a very costly repair. altho i can live with some minor updating and preventative stuff....
jcsomerset 01-06-2004, 01:20 PM Bottom Line - the car will need work simply due to it's age. How much work depends on what has/has not been done to it.
Well maintained and driven cars will usually Be Ok and not require too much work.
Garage and Yard queens are a different story, however...
FWIW - I'm selling my '84.. although I'm in AL...
Prairieman 01-06-2004, 09:55 PM I have a source for clear front lenses, although they told me they are currently "out of stock"
let me find the link so you can contact them and add to the list of people waiting...
E24_635csi 01-13-2004, 05:36 PM Im also intrested in clear corners for the 6, i havnt seen it on any 6 series, but im sure they are avalable.
Ive also been looking for wheels for my 6. Those TRX's are starting to bother me... i woudlnt mind going to 18's but no larger.
Nothing too flashy, but just something that will catch the eye of others
Franchise 01-14-2004, 02:40 AM can someone Pshop some popular wheels on to the car?
acs
hammann
m3
m5
whatever....
maybe some bbs
just get some variety...
oooh some hre's for sure.
any and all pshops would be greatly appreciated
jcsomerset 01-14-2004, 09:56 AM Go to www.tirerack.com they've got a cute little program that'll let you view their line of wheels on a 6er car. (I think the only car color choices may be black or blue, but can't remember at the moment. )
Also check out www.bigcoupe.com lots of 6er pics there..
maybe try the 6er gallery at roadfly.org too. Just about every style of wheel can be found on 6ers of every color on one of these boards.. (Besides, I am no good at PS... he he )
BimmerFreak 01-14-2004, 10:09 AM TireRack lets you view the car in either black or blue....good thing my car is black :)
Side note:
I just purchased some BBS RX from another member on bf.c, so it looks like my wheels and tires will be up for sale in a few weeks.
They are 17X8.5 OZ with new 235/45/17 Michelin XGT Z4 tires.
If someone is interested, let me know....I dont want to end up with 3 sets of wheels in my garage!
jcsomerset 01-14-2004, 01:47 PM I'm thinking of going to 17" s when I sell the 84 6er.. But haven't made up my mind yet....
E24_635csi 01-14-2004, 11:31 PM thanks for those sites guys, yeah tirerack.com is pretty sweet with the virtual wheel thing.
