View Full Version : US MINI HP Specs etc...for all interested...
BMWMPOWER1996 10-08-2001, 10:56 AM Since I have been in them and know about them etc...
(my friend works for them)
Standard Mini 115hp a little slow...but with CVT it DOESNT shift gears. But you can put it in manual mode and it acts like it has 6 gears.
Mini Cooper S...This one is pretty quick- 165 HP supercharged. Its pretty light, and has a 6-speed trans. you can REALLY fly into the corners with this one-17inch rims, centered exhaust, hid's, 2 sunroofs, all the good stuff (besides a HUGE tachometer, and an optional GPS system)
I don't remember the original having gps :)

Sounds like this one has a definite BMW flavor to it... :)
Preppy 10-08-2001, 12:08 PM Dang it I want a Mini Cooper S.......looks like I'll be eating Ramen noodles for quite a while
Rel44 M3 10-08-2001, 12:22 PM Mini Cooper S sounds very good, but you have to remember it's competing in the price range of some other very good and popular cars... WRX, RSX, Celica, new Sentra... I'd have to take it for a test drive to decide. Cooper S is a FWD too, right?
Preppy 10-08-2001, 12:39 PM I think it is FWD, but then again I wanna say it is RWD.....I wanna get a Mini Cooper and throw the M5 engine out back :D WOnder if it is possible :book:
Rel44 M3 10-08-2001, 02:12 PM Maybe if you grafted two Mini's together, you could fit an M5 engine in there. :D

Hahaha, yeah I know....I wonder what the s/c looks in comparison to the engine itself
I still think there are endless amounts of possibilities for that car :book:
BMWMPOWER1996 10-09-2001, 07:33 AM And YES there will be a TON of aftermarket companies all over this car. it will be easy to get a larger supercharger and intercooler and make some lost hp up in there....250 hp isnt insane...but in a car like that...it would be alot of power (and fun)
Rel44 M3 10-09-2001, 11:05 AM How much does the Cooper S weigh?

LOL, I bet. Throw an M5 engine in the Cooper S and it'll be driving on the two front wheels only... the back ones will be off the ground. ;)
I think getting 250hp in it will make that car an extremely quick and maneuverable car. I really have to test drive it, though, to see what affect the FWD has on its handling characteristics. Granted, I've driven FWD cars the majority of my driving life, but I just don't know how happy I'd be driving one of those after getting used to driving around in the RWD M3. Anyway, I hope a supercharger upgrade won't cost like $10k on the thing.

Yeah, right, so should I wake you up now? Knowing BMW, the trend of high cost aftermarket parts will continue with the Mini as well....
Rel44 M3 10-09-2001, 04:36 PM Well, since the Cooper S is already supercharged, there will probably be things like pully upgrades and stuff that shouldn't cost too much. And upgrading the supercharger itself would probably be easier to do on this engine than one without a supercharger altogether. Granted, I'm sure the parts will still be relatively expensive compared to what you can get on Jap cars, but hopefully not as outrageous as on the other BMW's.
BMWMPOWER1996 10-11-2001, 07:31 AM You cant even see the supercharger, its Under the engine

Really? That's interesting. What type of supercharger is in it? And who manufactures it?
Preppy 10-11-2001, 02:19 PM Heh, I still wanna know if an engine swap is feasible :book:
