i was at the cruise night (car show) tonight and a guy pulls in with a 2001 silver Diablo. this thing is gorgeous. its the SV (not 4WD) version. i hear him telling another person that he'll race anything,,, so i walked up and soon as he was finished,, i said,, i heard you say you'll race? he said yes, i said " i would like to race you", he said "what do you have?", i said " a plain looking white BMW". he said, sure,, i'll race you.
so, then a little bit later, while i'm taking pics of his car,
i asked "do you want a standing start or a rolling start?", he said "it doesnt matter to me". i said that's cool, me neither. the show is right next to Dale Mabry Raceway, oops,, i mean boulavard, so i said, we can race from the redlight going north when the show's done. he said,,, yeah,, that's cool.
some of my homeys from the Badrap.com V8 muscle car group were standing around us,, unfortunately, some of them were running their mouths and i guess work got back to the owner that he had agreed to more than he may had bargained for..... because when the show was wrapping up,, he backed out of the parking lot,, i saw him, threw my chairs in the trunk and headed out too. we made eye contact as i rolled my window down going to the exit of the parking lot. instead of turning left towards dale mabry, he turned right...????? i'm thinking,, i know he sees me right behind him,, where is he going?? so then i figure, he's headed to the veterans raceway,, i mean "expressway",,, that'l be cool,, there is a new section that starts at the point we would enter and would have no traffic. that would be perfect! so as w approach the overpass and the entrance ramps, i flash my lights and turn my blinker. he keeps going straight, so i think, he wants to go south instead,, that's cool,, i can go south. i get into the turn lane and he keeps going straight, then he gets into the turn lane for a residentual type road and turns just before a row of cars comes in the other lane so i can't follow. bummer,,
i was sad. i don't usually pick a race, but i was very curious of how a new diablo would run against my car. i already beat one at Desoto indirectly, but i wanted a newer one "head to head". at desoto there was a purple one that raced and got beat twice by a black viper, then i smoked the viper, i never got to line up against the diablo. oh well,, maybe next time...lol
i went back to the shows and the Badrap.com guys said "did you race him?", and i told them what happened. marty said i knew he wouldnt race you after everyone started talking about your car in front of him... i said,, yeah,, everyone should have kept quiet. bummer.
