Hi all... I'm new BMW ownership, and to the forum. I have the stock HK audio system in my 99 M3 cabrio driven from an Alpine (CD player only) head unit (which I am going to replace soon). This setup includes the 8" (I think it's an 8) sub which was an option only for the convertibles (so I hear). The sub fires into my trunk, the grill runs flush with the carpeted back wall of my trunk, and you can see the back of the sub if you fold down the middle arm rest in the back seat. I assume a few of you know about this speaker? Well, I want to replace the driver with a Kicker Solo-Baric (good bass with little or no enclosure) and then replace the amp for the whole system with something with a bit more power (more high current). Has anyone done something similar to what I want to do here?

Here's the new head unit I am going to get -
Panasonic MXE CQ-DFX983U (http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-sYNuUZzn0Nc/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=62700&I=133DFX983&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N)

I have the same question. I will be taking my system apart this spring to see what I can do. My main goal is to still be able to put my Golf clubs in the trunk while improving the sound.
