Other than rust (where?) and signs of overheating, what should I look for?
It is an '87 with about 130,000 miles and probably partial records at best.
The one picture I have seen looks straight and clean. It is probably a west coast car.
Asking $5000 at the independent dealer I bought my 840 from.

Check for rust in the fenderwells, sunroof, bottom of doors and shock towers. Rust in the floor pan is harder to see as you have to put the car on a lift.
Check the obc to make sure it is operating properly and also check the odometer to make sure it is working also with the trip odometer.

What he said -
I'd have them check the tranny thoroughly - if not properly maintained they can go at about 130K. Although not terribly expensive to replace...

Thanks
My wife thinks that I am trying to run the Numbers!!
If I buy this one I will only need a 3 and a 5. I think I can resist though.
I was looking at a 635 first but when I took her to the place where it was to show it to her I went home in a 740 instead. Oh well.
Anything special to look for on the L6 that isn't standard on the equivalant 635? There isn't much in the archives even on Roadfly on the L6 other than "All that leather" kind of comments.
Thanks again Here is a pic

It's your basic 635 auto W/ the leather goodies, the rear air unit is troublesome to have worked on, may want to make sure it operates when the A/C is on.. THose look dangerously like TRX's on the car (240/45/VR or ZR 390's) Metric rims - Tires - 180 each minimum to replace.. pretty much everyone dumps them and gets some newer bimmer or aftermarket rims W/ modern tire choices... check the tread on those unless you want to come out of pocket for a 1G right out of the bat. otherwise, looks good from here-

What was said before, Fenderwells and under the doors seem to a big rust spot, check leaks through the sunroof.
Other than that, Nice looking 6. Yeah those TRXs are not the greatest set of wheels that coulda been chosen for the car... a nice set of BBS's woulda been nice but i guess the M6 got those.
