View Full Version : HI: JN Track Day 1/09. Anyone else going?
IslandS62 12-20-2003, 10:01 PM I got an invitation in the mail today to attend a JN Track day on the 9th, 10th, 11th of January. Anyone else get an invitation and are you going?
"JN Automotive group will be flying in professional drivers from all over the world, representing the manuf. Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Audi, Lotus, Mazda and Chevrolet. This event is designed for you to optimize the performance of your vehicle-in a controlled racetrack environment-under the guidance of professionals...Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus and Maserati owners are encouraged to participate on Sunday, January 11th."
Guess which day I am RSVPing for!!! :stickoutt
Anyway breakfast and lunch are provided and it looks like the event is FREE!!
It looks like I can take a guest. Anyone want to come along? Thrlls? Beastmaster? I guess buying 3 cars from the Audi dealership is finally paying off :)
The Beastmaster 12-20-2003, 10:46 PM Are they bringing out the F50? Joe Nicolai let my friend drive that around along with the Muricelago since he's helping him out with some design stuff. Maybe I can score an invitation also?
Those Italian exotics are great to look at but I have a hard time driving them. Due to the design, there are lots of blind spots. To deal with these blind spots, I used to look for a spot ahead of me and just punch it! Lotus on the other hand is built like a kit car with a lot of creaks and groans. Maseratis have a problem with rust in Hawaii. When they had the biturbos, they were quick and responsive, but everyone I looked at had rust on the A pillar.
IslandS62 12-20-2003, 11:43 PM Don't have any other details. Try and score another invitation then we can go as a group and sort of "invade" the event. Free lapping with Ferraris? I am definitely there!
The Beastmaster 12-21-2003, 12:01 AM You break it, you bought it! ;)
IslandS62 12-21-2003, 12:04 AM You break it, you bought it!
I don't think they will be turning us loose in dealer owned exotics :( Strictly run what YOU brung. Should still be fun to be on track with them though...it will be interesting to see if the owners of these things can actually DRIVE :)
The Beastmaster 12-21-2003, 12:32 AM Most of them can't drive for $hit and let the car drive them, unless John Browning shows up. Don't know what he has these days, maybe a Viper, Ferrari or a Lambo. If he brings one of his Hummers, I'd stay away from the track.
thrlls 12-21-2003, 02:14 AM I will be working at this event with the SCCA doing flags and picking up cones. I attended this event two years ago, and it was awesome to see so many exotics in one place. That was when I took a ride in the Lotus Elise, and a new dream car was born for me. The driver's that are at this event are customer's of JN. You'll see Corvettes there as well as Maseratis and Ferraris. The owner of Exotic Car Rentals will most likely be there with a few of his cars. Most of the drivers CANNOT drive their car, except those that autox with their Audis.
IslandS52 this is a good event to take your S/O to learn a little about tracking. The event had a small slalom course, and using only the short track, a follow the leader type run, going faster each lap, rotating from front to rear of the caravan of cars with each new lap. The most dangerous driver there was Joe N passing on the sweeper!
It is NOT like the Aloha 500!
From what we were told at the last event, Mr. Nicolai was trying to get some NASCAR drivers to come to this years event.
The good thing is, I'm getting paid for each day this year!
Hope to see you guys there!
IslandS62 12-21-2003, 02:58 AM I don't think Anna is going to be able to make it. Are you sure you wouldn't rather attend a day as a guest instead of a worker?
How about you Bry?
thrlls 12-21-2003, 04:44 AM Take a day off, and go have some fun!
Good to hear Anna will be attending, you don't want to waste the invitation.
I hope I won't have to Black flag her...... :D
thrlls 12-21-2003, 04:49 AM Sorry, misread your post.
I hope I won't have to Black flag you... :D
IslandS62 12-21-2003, 02:30 PM lol...Anna said she wants to come now. She heard "Ferrari" and decided that she is coming! If you didn't know, Anna is a die hard "Tifosi". She stays up til' 4am watching F1 on Speed. Even I don't do that, I tape it, and even then I fall asleep half the time :)
She gives me a hard time about the cars once in while, but I think she fully expects that I will bring home a Ferrari one of these years. Just need to earn the cash now!
The Beastmaster 12-21-2003, 04:43 PM Sell the M Coupe and get a Ferrari! That's the ticket! Errr, hopefully not a speeding ticket. Maybe she'll even dye her hair red just like the Tifosi. I've been looking at the 400i lately and their smooooth V12, maybe even a Mondial Cab or a 348ts.
The summer that I graduated from high school my aunt was looking at the Mondial and the dealer let her have it for a couple of days. I got to drive it and it was a decent car, but not too quick. The Quattrovalvole ones are much quicker and you have the utility of a 2 + 2 (rhesus monkeys), just like the 400i.
IslandS62 12-21-2003, 08:33 PM My neighbor down the road used to have a 400i, very classic looking coupe...looks very sleek like a M6, only more so, if that makes sense. I was just talking to Dean about 328s the other month...if I got one anytime soon it would most likely be a 348tb (it is somewhat unloved among Ferrari enthusiasts) or a Testarossa (more common to find) if I decide I can handle the costs to maintain. I need a 3 car garage though :( and when I think about it seriously, an M5 or even a Porsche 911 just makes more sense.
Gene V 12-21-2003, 09:17 PM I worked this event in '94 when JN asked the SCCA to help him put it on.
We had them do threshold breaking, lane change, and skid pad excercises follwed up with an autox course.
There were at least four Diablos there, plus a Testarossa, Lotus Espirit, couple of ZR1s and a Bugatti EB110 which JN flew in Doc Bundy to drive.
The catered lunch was great (we ate after the guests) and a good time was had by all.
The Beastmaster 12-21-2003, 10:29 PM I knew those dates sounded familiar. The gf needs to go to the jewelry show that weekend.
JP, you sure Anna isn't going to the jewelry show?
thrlls 12-21-2003, 11:57 PM Doc Bundy was there at the last event as well!
JP> 911 Turbo, 911 Turbo, 911 Turbo!
:cashwalle :cashwalle :cashwalle
thrlls 12-22-2003, 12:07 PM Update on JN Track Day:
Doc Bundy will be attending, also Michael Galati. Michael Galati is a Factory Audi race driver. He was Speed World Challenge champion in 2002, and took second in 2003 driving a 450 Audi RS6.
Former F1 driver (1993 Ferrari) Ivan Capelli may also be attending.
Looks like it's going to be a great day!
The Beastmaster 12-22-2003, 03:41 PM You must have gotten the same E-mail I got!
Gene V 12-22-2003, 08:56 PM ditto...
thrlls 12-23-2003, 02:33 AM Yup!
I just thought I'd share with those that may not have gotten it.
They are still looking for workers!
thrlls 12-23-2003, 02:50 AM Got a second mortgage on my home today, so I guess now I can get the Porsche Carrera GT!
Ouch! My wife just pinched me to wake me up!
bummers!
The Beastmaster 12-30-2003, 01:28 AM I'm working on Friday. Who else?
IslandS62 12-30-2003, 03:31 AM What's with the working!? I don't want to work, I want to attend as a guest!
I got bumped from Sunday as I was expensive Italian-car-less. I will be attending on Saturday.
The Beastmaster 12-30-2003, 03:38 AM So what car are you gonna drive?
IslandS62 12-30-2003, 03:44 AM I was planning on taking the Coupe, but if this weather remains it will be the Audi. I just took the 318 to Tim Knight today and the car is all pau(new clutch master cyl. and ICV), the only thing not working now is the odometer. :) Still not sure if its track ready though. Even though it has new brakes, I am thinking she still doesn't have enough stopping power...
thrlls 12-31-2003, 02:22 AM Not enough stopping power?
What do you have under the hood?
Has Reid been toying with your 318?
IslandS62 12-31-2003, 03:12 AM Actually the car stops fine. I think I am a little spoiled by the MCoupe. :D
thrlls 12-31-2003, 03:29 AM Not only by the MCoupe's brakes, (E30 M3) but the power also.
IslandS62 12-31-2003, 03:32 AM what's with the (E30 M3) <---- are you sending me subliminal messages now?
:D Don't push on me, it's all I've been thinking about all evening
