As some of you may know, I have been having a nightmare with my water pump removal on my 318is. I spent 6 hrs (the last 2 hrs ZZZING helped) last Saturday trying to remove my water pump. The set screws that are used to pull out the pump broke the housing, and that was the start of the nightmare

Sunday I attended the Xmas dinner and talked with Mike Miller about it, he said if I can't get it out, I should have a professional look at it. IslandS52 suggested Tim Knight.

Monday I called Tim and explained my predicament, he said tow it in and he'll look at it. Wednesday morning I had Distinguish Towing tow my car to Knight Werks, and by 3:30 I was driving my 318is home :)
It took Tim & another person 4 hrs to remove the water pump. He charged me $300, which I thought was very resonable for what he had to do.

Lesson to be learned: Use BMW coolant (ONLY) mixed with DISTILLED water. The previous owner had the green slim coolant in there, which simply destroyed the aluminum and fused the pump to the front cover. It's a good thing my front cover is okay. Flush your system at minimum every two years, best if done every year.

Mahalo lslandS52 & Beast/Curbmaster for your suggestions.

PS
Congratulations IslandS52 on being the new President of BMWCCH! :alright

Glad to hear the water pump wasn't too painful. Tim is a great mechanic, especially on old E30s..

I need to do the coolant in my 318is as well, as its age and composition are undertermined. I also have a nice fluctuating idle which I hope I can solve by cleaning the ICV valve. The disaapearing brake fluid has seemed to subsided, but I will be looking into a new clutch master cylinder soon as well.

Keep your calanders clear for the 27th DIY day. You guys have no excuses to miss it with this much notice! BTW, congratulations are due to Thrlls as well as he is the new VICE-president! I want to see all you BFCmembers at BMW Club meetings this year! I don't care if you haven't paid club dues or not, I want you guys at the events!!

PS
Its' been TOO quiet in this forum the past few days!

I'm glad you got your car fixed. While you were there did you have Tim search for the loose nut behind the wheel? ;)

Congrats to both of you guys. Now I can join the Honda Club and get a nice Civic Coupe, FI it and install a BOV.

Meetings? We have meetings? Hmmm....

Yes I agree, much TOO quiet!

DIY on the 27th sounds good. May be we can do my sun roof if I get it in time. I also need to change out my cluster light bulbs, and remove that damn brake lining light! It doesn't want to go away! I just received my Bentley Service Manual for the E30 and 4 cyl. Z3. Just in case we need some additional info. I would like to do my CA bushings, but I'll need to take it to a shop to get pressed off/on.

IslandS52 - do a photo shop on Beastmaster's Purple Pimp Blimp with vanity plates like you mentioned, SLMLRD....:laugh

Congrats to the new officers! Beastmaster, great job the last 2 years.

Thrlls, glad you got that SOB pump out, that thing was unreal! Good point about using the correct coolant, I will definitely remember to use the good stuff.

Sonic motorsports has the car for you! They have a Civic Coupe there for sale which they claim is pushing 400 hp. hmmmm....I saw it in Buy and Sell I think.

Really? ::running out the door going to 7-11 for a Buy & Sell::

Checked again. It was in "Previews". No price is listed. Looks a little ricey, but when you are under 2800 lbs and have 400 dyno-proven hp...looks can be forgiven:)

Found this under "project cars" on their website, so it MIGHT be the car. Maybe Reid might know the car...That is, if your serious ;)

Maybe I want a DSM. I think they look cool with the roof air intake. The question is, 2nd gen or 3rd gen? I like the 2nd gen better but I know the 3rd gen ones are vastly improved in chassis stiffness.

Thrlls: Member DannO has just built a MCoupe track car and has some mods for sale. Notably a racing seat, harnesses that can be used with the stock seats and bimmerworld brake ducts ( I think you still need plates and hoses ). I was PMing with him but it looks like I am going to pass on that stuff. Since you are a little more serious than I am about track and autocross, you might want to get in touch with him...

BM: A friend of mine from high school had a 90? Talon AWD. Quick but it was really a hunk of crap. I think he was on Airport viaduct one night and the hood latch failed and the hood flew open, smashing the windshield and roof...that was pretty much the end for that car. He bought it around the time I got my M3 and his car lasted about 1/3rd as long...

Are you sure its not a Turbo MR2 you are looking for? I think those have roof snorkels. DSMs are front engine.

I also think a new MR2 spyder is neat car. Sort of like a Elise, but you know...slow. Would make a neat autocrosser. Maybe Thrlls can hook you up!

The MRS is a woman's car. Just look at the initials!

Yes, it's a DSM. I've seen a couple of 2nd gen DSMs w/ that air duct on the roof. It looks cool, but I doubt that it's functional. Maybe it's to get air into the cabin?

Are you really looking for a POS DSM/Honduh/etc beater?

If so, let's build you a nice sleeper. ;)

Not really looking for a beater, just a fun car. Since I'm not Prez anymore, I can get any kind of car. How's about a SC C4 Corvette? Or a Z28 ot T/A, or a 911 turbo.

Or, a Yugo!

I'm not feeling that DSM  snorkel or no.

There is a fairly nice white 98' LTI Ram Air Trans Am on the Servco lot :) I pass by it everyday as a walk to lunch. Looks like a lot of fun in a "Smoky and the Bandit" sort of way!

Since when does the BMWCCA pres. need to drive only bimmers? Expect to see the Audi at a lot of events and maybe a guards red Porsche:devillook

LOL!

You'd be disappointed to learn that the "scoop" is not really a scoop at all. There is no vent on the roof. People just bondo the scoop onto their roof for aesthetics.

Supercharge the 540. :)

I figured the roof scoop was no functional, but it looks pretty cool!

SC the 540? Not at the $12k Dinan wants. Plus I like to have lots of toys. Didn't you hear the saying, He who dies with the most toys, still dies. ;)

I did not realize they wanted $12k for the s/c.

What price range are you looking at for this toy (including all modifications)?

The Beastmaster

Oh yeah, that's $12k PLUS $3k in installation for 412hp.

Price range? I have no idea.
