I dont know. I know for a fact the BMW diagnostic computers at the dealer doesnt have a feature where it tells the tech how many times LC has been used. However, if the tech or the dealer want to be a prick they can remove the DME and SMG ECUs and ship it to New Jersey and have the experts there interogate the ECUs.

The same thing goes for engine over-revs. The BMW computers at the dealer doesnt have a feature to detect them.. unless some new version came out after 11/02

My local dealer is able to read the max RPM that the engine has reached and how long it sustained it.

Yes for the E36 OBD2 models but for the E46 systems it is different.

Does anybody ever launch the car without moving the shifter up? If your on first gear (manual) at a complete stop, and you depress the gas pedal in a certain way, you can get the rpm up to 3k (with practice) without the car moving, then when you give it more gas it just takes off super fast. :redspot :buttrock

It’s just like launch control by holding the shifter up but instead doing it with the gas pedal. It’s probably not good for the car? :dunno
Any feedback or experiences? NO Flaming! :nono

what is launch control? is there a way to launch an SMG real fast?

www.bmw.com/smg

1/4 times and best 0-60 is accomplished via a 6 speed manual. The issue is w/ SMG is that you can not modulate the clutch to get an optimal launch. LC is limited to 1800rpms.

Also SMG hesitates from 1krpm to 2krpm (kinda like the feeling of turbo lag)

What RPM are you guys launching at?

Its rumored that a European based company will come out with software for the US SMGII guys next year so that it can launch higher.

Who knows if a US M3's ECU would be readable by the dealer on the use of launch control and if so, is there any potential for this info. to get into the wrong hands:eek:

I would hate to be trading/selling my M3 and have someone use that info. against me:complain

haha nice carl. but i dont think its a good idea to use LC before 3100 mile break in. i can tell you just couldnt help yourself. hah

ive used it probably a good 60+ times w/ 7000 miles. and my car still looks strong, except for my back right tire. seems to be leaking. need to bring it to the dealer and get it checked out.heh
