Any of you running 285s on the rear that have also lowered. What height from center? I've heard 13" will rub, but 13.625" won't... Experience?

View Full Version : 285 owners w/ lowered cars...height from center? M3Fella 12-05-2003, 06:06 PM Any of you running 285s on the rear that have also lowered. What height from center? I believe it lowers the car about a 1/4" in the rear and 3/8" in front. No rubbing problems. Explain what you want measured - from what to what and I'll be happy to do it for you. Do you want it in inches or mm? Do you want it in inches or mm? Sure I'll elaborate. A measurement, in inches, from the bottom of the wheel (rim) to the highest portion of the bottom of the fender (wheel well) minus the diameter/2 of the wheel. Stock is around 14". I'm at 13". I've heard you need about 13.625 for 285s to not rub. m3jlk 12-12-2003, 01:29 AM Originally posted by M3Fella Sure I'll elaborate. I've heard you need about 13.625 for 285s to not rub. Something's not adding up here. First of all the tire/wheel pretty much fills the wheel well, so getting an accurate measurement Like you describe is nearly impossible. However, if I measure from the bottom of the rim to the highest point on the lip of fender opening, I get 24 1/8". That calculates to 14.625". I'm not sure what that will tell you. A 285X30 on a Dinan 19" wheel does not rub, but that doesn't mean the same tire on a different wheel wouldn't. Your best bet is to contact the Tire Rack for advice. I think they are familiar with both the Dinan wheel and clearances for the M3.:) beowoulf 12-12-2003, 02:37 AM The measurement you are talking about is supposed to be from the center of the wheel to the lowest edge of the fender. Here are the proper measurements for each corner but not for 285s. You probably have to raise the car to accommodate the larger tires. Raise each corner in relation to the others to keep the car balanced. 13.625 LF 13.4375 RF 13 LR 12.875 RR m3guy35 12-12-2003, 08:55 PM M3fella It really depends on how wide your rim is and the offset. I have 19x10's and have 275's and I still rub. Car is pretty low on H&R coilovers. Best thing to do is take wheels to a tire shop and see if 285's will actually fit. If the tire shop knows you are going to buy the tires from them...they don't mind mounting one wheel to the rim and see how it looks. Also...I believe overall diameter wise...a 275 30 19 is closest to the 255 40 18 stock wheel and tire. If you go 285...you will actually be going to a bigger diameter. John from jersey 12-12-2003, 10:22 PM depends on tire size, tire brand, wheel offset, wheel width ...without all of the four your question can not be answered accurately M3Fella 12-14-2003, 04:04 AM Nods.. So what I'm wondering is: If anyone has 285s on the rear, can you tell me your height/specs. Thanks m3guy35 12-14-2003, 01:49 PM Originally posted by M3Fella Nods.. So what I'm wondering is: If anyone has 285s on the rear, can you tell me your height/specs. Thanks I don't have 285's but I put in the tire size diameter calculation and came up with this: 18x255x40 = 26.03 diameter 19x275x30 = 25.496 diameter 19x285x30 = 25.73 I guess diameter wise....the equivalent to stock is more like a 295 30 series tire. But like others have said they can give you specs but the brand might be different so it is pointless. Just go to a tire shop. TransHuman 05-03-2004, 03:10 PM Here's a link for tire measurement calculations: http://www.eunos.com/tirecalc/ Regardless, I'm struggling with the same issue. I'd like to use a 10.5" x 19" et22 wheel in the rear with the 285/30/19 tire..one guy says it doesn't rub. My "x" factor is the Dinan Stage 3 drop which he doesn't have..so I can't tell if I'll rub or not. :stickoutt starfish 05-03-2004, 03:53 PM i have cargraphic 19' with 285 in the rear, i have eibach spring, it rubs my fender even though i have one passenger, maybe also because i have 50 bls subwoofers in my trunk. What's your offset? And your wheel width? |
