I have BBS RC's which have taken a little bit of abuse over the years, I havn't really kept them too clean and there are a lot of clumps of brake dust caked on. I want to completely "Strip" the wheels of whatever wax may be on them and completely get all the stuff off of them. I then plan on re-waxing the rims and all that. So, what I'm asking is for a wheel cleaner that may be abrasive enough to strip off all the stuff on my wheels but not ruin the finish. Any ideas?

thanks

Use a strong wheel cleaner product like Eagle 1's Hot Wheels or something and scrub using a terrycloth towel, rinse thoroughly, dry them off, let them sit a while, dry again, and then wax using a pure carnuba (no cleaners) wax, like a paste wax.

Those clumps of brake dust may have eaten into the clear on the wheel, and thus are a permanent fixture. Like Dave said, use a good wheel cleaner. Eagle On A2Z, Eiman Fabrik High Intensity cleaner, or p21s/s100 wheel cleaner are good ones. Never herard of hot wheels before so I can't comment on that.

When I have really tough jobs like that I usually wash the wheel first with car wash soap. Then while they are still wet I spray the product on one wheel at a time. I let it site for a couple of minutes, then I use a spnge to scrub. Whatever areas are still dirty get ptoduct reapplied to them. I let it sit again for 2 mins, then I take an old tooth brush and scrub the problem areas. This method usually get most of the stuck on crap off.

Another method you may want to try is to wash with car wash soap, then clay the wheels. Clay will abrade any brake dust that is stuck to your rims.

Or you can use both methods if the rims are really bad.
