Any help is appreciated. jbob 11-25-2003, 09:32 PM :) so u got the turbo 320i????? :D checkout http://europeanautomotive.com Tricord 11-26-2003, 04:52 AM Check the germany-based W&N http://www.wallothnesch.com nicholas 11-26-2003, 01:22 PM Yeah, I got the turbo 320i. Car seems to be in good condition except for an issue with the front suspension. The rubber bushings around the top of the struts (maybe they are called upper strut mounts) that surround the bolts are worn. I think they are causing a small problem. When i really load up the front suspension in a corner i feel this wiggle or slushiness, kind of hard to explain. I am thinking it is those pieces, otherwise i will replace the tie rods. I'll just those replaced an an alignment and it is good to go. I am going to get it on a dyno pretty soon too, to figure out where the power is at and the air/fuel ratios. It seems slow, but i am used to my E36 M3 with a blower. I drove the 320i turbo down from Sebastapol on Monday and it ran great. The temp gauge never went above half way and it frequently ran at 1/4. Is this typical for the Century turbo kit? The guy i bought it from said that's how it has run for him. TheNeek 11-26-2003, 01:47 PM Nicholas -- The 320i won't really impress you in a straight line unless you really do some work to that M10. Where you'll have the most fun is throwing some sticky tires on it and throwing into turns. The E21 is a very underrated car when it comes to performance. The lightest 3 series by far and only a little fatter than a 2002. I hope you keep good care of that car, it seems like a gem. Check the control arm bushings that locate the swaybar up front. These can cause steering slop in hard cornering and braking. m42technic 11-26-2003, 02:13 PM www.bmaparts.com blitzed310 11-26-2003, 03:59 PM Originally posted by nicholas I am going to get it on a dyno pretty soon too, to figure out where the power is at and the air/fuel ratios. Damm I want that e36:buttrock, not to bust your bubble but no matter what you do its not going to compare with the speed of the supercar you have there, but in the "twisties" it might surprise you, like Nic said ~2500lbs or so and its a great car! How much did you pick up the e21 for? Where you located in LA! -CJ nicholas 11-26-2003, 04:20 PM Neek - I will check the control arm bushings. It does feel a little sloppy once the gets loaded up in corners. But, more so in right handers than left handers. Blitzed310 - I picked the car up for $3200 from another member on Bimmerforums. It has quite alot of mods done to it and once i fix the front suspension issues, she will be good to go. I live by LAX. In general i just have to get used to the old technology. The M3 is at a point where it does everything beautifully and is dialed in. The 320i just needs a little TLC and she will be champ in the canyons! By the Way, how involved is it to switch to disc rear brakes? I know alot of people use the 323i rears and i have been told that it is possible to put E30 rear brakes on the 323i rear trailing arms. The rear drum brakes just don't do the car justice. jbob 11-26-2003, 06:34 PM awesome! glad u got that turbo e21! :) u could really tell if the control arm-to-swaybar bushings are pretty worn if the wheel has lateral movement when u come to a sudden stop from maybe 3-5mph (have someone look at the wheels from outside the car while u brake suddenly) also, there are urethane bushings availible.....check racetep.com e21parts.com...for control arm's (http://www.e21parts.net/controlarm.htm), bmpd.com & bavauto.com |
