Me:Hi can I bring my car in for thermostat replacement today?

Dealer: WHOa Whoaa we are talking about next week already

Me:But its stuck open and its 30degree weather outside

Dealer:We are completely booked up

Me:A thermostat replacement is a quick job, theres nothing you
can do?

Dealer: NOpe

Me:SO i'm supposed to drive around with the thermostat stuck open, in cold weather. Wont that cause damage to my engine?

Dealer: I wouldnt drive on it too much

Me: I dont have another car so I guess i'll come in there and get the thermostat and do it myself. Isnt this considered an emergency repair as a broken thermostat could cause the engine to overheat,or in my case cause damage from not operating at the normal temperature?

Dealer: Like I said, I wouldnt suggest driving on it.

only reason I wanted them to change it out is because I still have cpo warranty so might as well. Plus I'm really busy at work this week but guess i'll come home at midnight and change the thing out.

Its a 99 I dont think I have the plastic housing. Anything else I should look out for while i'm doing it?

a thermo swap isn't a big enough job for them. start talking about a lot of other, more expensive stuff you want to do. a time slot will magically open

Call them back & ask them if a blown head gasket is covered under CPO...

I went by there today to see if they would move it up. Still till monday, but I could leave the car there with no promises if they could get to it before then. I HATE leaving my car there because it goes in clean - and comes out dirty as hell. Plus I dont have another car right now. I got the parts to do it myself.

I checked I do have a plastic housing. They recomended that I just swap it out with another plastic, because from their experience the non plastic one has problems with corrosion. I figure the plastic will be ok but i'll just change it out in another 50k miles or somethin.

If the dealer was cool he would try to work this quick job in somewhere because i'm sure it wont take them that long. But parts were $61 after my cca discounts and its a $50 deductable, so its only a few more dollars.
