wow. thats all i gotta say. these are amazing machines.

highlights of the event:

1. i got an m5 into 6th gear (okay so the car didn't have a battery in it but you know what, let me dream)
2. driving the hell out of a 330i sport

their was 3 events, obsticle dodging (i forget what they called it). but you came to a stop, floored it. got to about red line in first gear (it was auto but they had it on step mode) and then at the last second you are about to pile into thing of cones about as wide as a semi they tell you which way to go and (let of the gas)you have to swerve that way and then swerve back to keep from going off the course and then you have to slam on the brakes

i did that a total of 5 times with 2 different instructors. the first time i went, i was hte first person in my car to go so i was kinda nervous. fly down, the guy screams LEFT!

:az: i went right. i did everytihng perfect except i went the wrong way haha. then the next instructor after i've done it a couple times, i was talking to him and he's from a part in england where i used to go. he was like 'i thought you seemed liek a good driver, you ARE british' haha.

next event i went to was the skid pad that was loaded with water and soap. you line up to it with a half turned wheel. you floor it and then when you start skidding side ways you left off the gas turn in to the skid and when you stop skidding you recover. pretty fun did it about 8 times.

next i went to the brake place. you start off by flooring it and then at hte last second before a turn the person yells brake and you slam on the brakes the the ABS go crazy. then you drive a little longer floor it from a stop into a turn, then in mid turn they yell brake and you ahve to keep turning while slamming on the brakes. it was defintly fun beucase the tires got screaming and the abs was going nuts. i did that about 5 times.

all in all i learned a ton and i got to tear the hell out of some 330i's.

i want one.

i forgot to explain the title.

in a top gear video of the m5 the guy describes the m5 as butter in his hands.

after i went around the obsticle thing, i turned to my friend and said 'its like butta in my hands'. the instructor didn't get it though.

other fun thoughts:

at the point where you are turning and then have to slam on the brakes and keep turning part.

first time around i managed to turn on the turn signal. the next time around (and i'm still not sure how i did this) i sprayed the windshield washer fluid

that took skillz yo.

Sounds like you had a real good time. I did an autox school that was similar to that a while back when I was still in Jersey. I'm glad I got to do it in my own car because it really helped me learn the limits of it, and the instructors who drove it were all very impressed with the handling too.

:biglaughb This was before.... The whole thing about when I attempted that drift was that I intentionally took a retarded line and intentionally broke the car loose because I thought it would be cool.

Speaking of wrecking.....my friend wrecked his accord (ricey parts) last tuesday in the rain driving like a retard and then thursday KNOCKED DOWN a tree with his dads LS430 :laugh

I had to take him to the hospital cuz he got a concussion...not from the accident, but from falling in a ditch when he went to look at the car. Sucks for him, but funny for me

Yeah Friday afternoon was a blast. The instructors told us that they only get FIFTY MILES out of each set of the stock Michelins that come on those 330i's. I'll vouch for that, looking at all the marbles of rubber around the short courses.

BTW, I had the 4th best time out of the driving group I was in. Not bad considering some of the guys there auto-x'ed and had done DE's before. My team won the 'relay race', which was pretty cool.

I was about 2 to 2.5 sec off the times of the instructors, and I was sad. But then I realized that those 2 to 2.5 sec would cost several years of race drving training, so I didn't feel quite as sad.

All in all, a good way to spend a beautiful Friday afternoon.

I forgot to add that the prescribed test-drive route sent you through the damn-near-worst parts of Atlanta.

"Look honey, there's the Federal Penitientiary..."

"Absolutely breathtaking, dear..."

At least they sent us down streets that were easy to follow - wait, no they didn't.

One intersection/turn was at a railroad crossing that had a BROKEN SIGNAL. You had to brave your way through oncoming traffic and potential train smashing to continue your drive.

That, and I had to test the X5. I woulda given them a 20-spot to take am ///M-car...

Everybody tease Ron, he left work early today...

Because he was bored. I considered it, but i prolly would have gotten busted and charged an hour of sick leave. Stupid government jobs...
