View Full Version : Possible to fit an M50 into 2002? billycorgan 11-22-2003, 06:37 PM Would it be possible or is the engine bay only fit for a four cylinder? Thanks. steve k. 11-26-2003, 04:36 AM it will probably require some modifications to the firewall and the radiator mounts. people do fit 6 cyl motor inthese cars. m20 moters are a reletevly easy upgrade. mot sure about m50. there are rummors of cars with them installed, but i have never seen one. then again, all it takes is time and money and you can do anything. steve canard 12-15-2003, 04:27 PM time and money = happiness. rags535 01-04-2004, 06:31 AM It's been done several times, only twice that I know of sucessfully;the M50 is really a bit heavy for the '02 body without a LOT of mods. Most use the E30 "M" engine(The "M2"),which isn't as large or heavy. Pete McHenry of Performance Plus in Winston-Salem did a 3.5L years ago to his Tii O.K.,(couldn't understand why my mod'85 535i "M5 killer" couldn't catch him at mid-ohio one year)but his business is weird BMW transplants and upgrades for decades now.You might want to give him a call. He's listed in the Roundel advisor section. Is there any documentation online of this kind of thing? steve k. 01-19-2004, 06:58 PM there are a few people on BMW 2002 FAQ site (http://www.bmw2002faq.com/talkshop/forum/) that have done that swap. Go the the message board and search the archives. There should be a lot of info. You can also ask if you don;t find anything, of if you are still comfused. steve k. |
