Hey, the bleeder is always here. No problem. I won't be able to do anything this weekend. Gottah work, work, work! Next week end sounds good.
What kind of rotors/pads did you get?
If you are going to do it this weekend, let me know. I'll bring it with me to work tomorrow. I'll check back later.

I bought something for my Porter Cable, and I discovered it needs rotors and pads also......:D

Is DIY days limited to just weekends for you guys or do you occasionally have one during the week? Tough to do on weekends coz of family and stuff. Weekdays no prob coz wife at work and son in school. If not, I do need to do brakes soon and was wondrn, Thrlls, could I be a scab and maybe borrow the bleeder one day during the week?

Usually done on the weekends cause the guys are usually at work during the week. However, they did do some work on a Friday. How's about next Thursday? Everyone should be off and the women will be busy cooking.

Thrlls, if you remember, could I borrow the bleeder and the caliper spreading tool this weekend? If not, I can wait until next weekend...since its a long one. I can return it to you on Sunday at the Poker Run ;) You ARE coming, right?
Anyway, I am going to try and get it done on my own. I just got some PBR Metalmasters and Brembo rotors.

What goodies did you get for the Porter Cable? BTW I was at NAPA today, next to Circuit City and they had Malco Rejunvenator for $18 a bottle. Thats a good deal, I think Daiei is $29 and Mat-co is $40! :eek!

I'm a nine-to-fiver during the week so its tough go to things during the week, but if its good for you and other members then go ahead and organize one!

I can make it pretty much anytime unless I have meetings scheduled.

I also found the Rejuvenator at Carquest in Moilili for $18. They also had the swirl remover for $14. The Rejuvenator is more aggressive, isn't it? I brought the Big Beast home tonight after sitting at the town house for a few months. I think it's time to clean him up!

So is your 318is an E30 or E36?

E30!
It's the one I've been trying to get from my realtor for the past year. It doesn't look all that great, but it was cheap. Runs well, interior is great. But the usual needs replacing brakes, & suspension.
I can't make it this weekend, and I'm still not sure if I can make I the Poker Run. Next Saturday is Auto-X day, but Sunday is open.

I work 7 - 5:30.... Mon - Fri occasionally on Sat, so during the week is definitely out for me.

Andy - No problem, just let me know when you'll need it.

IslandS52 - If you are up yet, or read this before you go to work, I'll bring the bleeder and the caliper spreader to work. I'll call you later. $18.00, that is cheap! NAPA in Hi/kai is $20.00. Don't forget caliper paint (black) Ron's is out of black, they only have blue, and red.

woohoo, thrlls has an E30 toy too! I see a LOT of E30 sessions in our future! Too bad you didn't tell us sooner you got an E30, I just bought a mess of parts from Dean and we could have split the shipping on the package. I bought brakes/rotors, a clutch kit, H4 headlights...just need to get the new brakes on, and look for a fuel leak that I just found.

I also just replaced the power steering fluid and that made a BIG difference!

I usually have a 5 hour span of free time from around 5PM-10PM on weekdays.

What do you need to do? I'm glad to help out if I'm available.

Reid: I'll probably try and tackle the brakes on Saturday morning. I found a small fuel leak under the manifold on the 318 as well so I need to go in there and try and find it. If you have some spare time and want to stop by you are welcome to, actually that goes for any of you.

:95

You lost me there, John. :stickoutt

IIRC, the 318 has lots of room in the engine bay, correct? Sounds more fun than trying to reach under the intake manifold on a S52.

thrlls, I actually have a set of 16" 4 x 100 rims and tires. I just don't know the offset . You have to check the hub bore as this one is 56mm.

ja//Mnn - if you pick up the bleeder from IslandS52, I'll need it on Thanksgiving day. I plan on doing my brakes then.

IslandS52 - I would have said something earlier, but I wanted to be sure the car was mine. I'm still not 100% sure more like 99%. I don't have the papers yet, as my realtor has to get her husband to sign, but he's on the Big Island.
Was it difficult to change your power steering fluid?

Beastmaster - I'll check out the offset and let you know. Mahalo

Actually, check hub bore. The wheels are the stockers from my MINI Cooper S.

John-
Drove by your house to say wussup, but no activity going on, none that I could see from the street. I saw what looked like an E30 undercover so I ass umed it was your pad. It was about 1:30ish.

Anyways, thrlls, I don't believe I'll be able to tackle my brakes b4 you so I'll just borrow it after ur done. Thanks and lunch at Kewalo LW is on me.

Have a Happy Turkey Day everyone!:)

Hey guys, sorry I couldn't post earlier, the forum was down.

I guess I have gotten pretty good with the brakes because I was done at like 10am. So I took a shower and went out for lunch. Sorry that you took the time to drop by and no one was here :(

Was it difficult to change your power steering fluid?
Yes it was very technically demanding.;) I pumped out the old fluid with a $4 pump from NAPA, and filled the reservoir with new fluid. Did it twice, and poured in some power steering pump conditioner. Took about 5 mins. Don't buy the conditioner, I still have most of the bottle. I had a small leak that it should take care of. Use Dextron 3. I bought some for high mile cars that swells the seals a bit. Steering smoothed out and tightened up quite a bit, and no longer has "play" on center.

Here is some info I found on Mini vs. E30 rims....

Points to clarify, (some restated)

-Mini wheels do not, and will not fit the e30, EVEN WITH SPACERS. If you wanted to use Mini wheels, you'd have to have a shop Machine the wheel itself because the Mini's centerbore is 56.2 mm so there wheels would not fit on the hub on an e30.

I purchased my wheels which were sold for the mini. I'm not sure about the centerbore on the mini, but the centerbore for these wheels is 60mm. I simply went to Discount Tire and ordered four 57.1mm -> 60mm hub centering rings. I then had to purchase 15MM spacers and 45mm long lug bolts.

The wheels are 17x7.5 et 40.

However if you say the mini's hub is 56.2, then the wheels I got were probably always meant to use hub centric rings. Anyway, if i had to do it all again, i'd probably get the Ronal ACT 15x7.

Oh well, looks like thrlls may have to order new wheels for Xmas. I figured there would be a problem w/ the centerbore. Too bad I didn't keep the 18s as they would have fit.

Oh well, I may just stay with the stockers, if I can find good rubber. I talked with IslandS52 and he mentioned, no good rubber for 14's :bluecry1:
I may need to do the power steering flush, but does anyone know how to do a coolant flush?
