:az: Damm this is a rookie question.. So its been about 30k miles since I replaced my rear brake shoes, after taking a peak they have about 1/8" or so left on them. Is it time to replace? Also what brand do you guys recommend, where to get, and so fourth? TIA guys...

Haynes says don't worry about it until you can see the rivots through the pads.
Don't have any real recommendations for brands or stores though. I like to get most of my stuff through www.partsbmw.com though. It's usually the cheapest that I find.

Pagid and ferodo make good shoes, bendix are good too, and somewhat cheaper
but check Betatested's link, that is where I buy mine too. Cheap and they ship it over in a flash

Thanks guys I looked around and they have the cheapest price by far, their brand of shoes is made by SBS, and they say they are excellent shoes so I am ganna go that route... Thanks again, any other thoughts...?
yeah i sorta recently put those SBS shoes in my car.....works fine. i think they use an organic lining (like the PBR deluxe pads), which should reduce brake dust.....but i've never had problems w/ brake dust from the drums.

Thanks :) A friend who's interested in older BMWs found it for me. I've been trying to talk him into looking into an old 3er to learn how to wrench on. He's probably going to get one sometime.
